The Bachelor’s Matty ‘J’ Johnson reveals the one thing that keeps him from feeling like a ‘total failure’ as a parent to his young daughters

Matty ‘J’ Johnson has revealed that sharing his parenting fails on social media actually makes him feel better.

The Bachelor stars tells Nine Honey that parenting his two girls, Marlie-Mae, five, and Lola, three, is a ‘a never-ending list of failures.’

‘There is nothing that makes me feel more normal and not like a total failure then when I share a story of a parenting struggle’ he said.

Maty gave examples such as, ‘trying to get rid of the dummy, failed sleep routines or my child hating me’.

‘Other parents reach out to me either on social media or in person and say, “I’m going through the same problem!”‘ he says, and that makes him feel better.

Matty and wife Laura Byrne tired the knot on the South Coast in 2022 after meeting on The Bachelor.

Laura and Matty are one of the most successful couples to come out of the show, but the brunette beauty told the I’ve Got News For You podcast it almost didn’t happen because she got ‘cold feet’ the day before filming was set to begin in 2017.

‘I had a complete change of heart and didn’t rock up for filming,’ she admitted.

‘If you’re selected, you get given a time and location, and it’s a secret time and secret location, to try and throw off paparazzi,’ she explained.

‘Mine was a pick-up location in Alexandria in some random park at 3pm, and you’re supposed to rock up with all your suitcases and a bus will come and collect you.

‘And I remember 3pm came and went and I was sitting at home and hadn’t packed a bag. I just had a complete change of heart. I really didn’t want to do it; I was worried about what it would look like vying for a man’s attention on a reality TV show.’

She then got a call from producers who gave her until 10am the next day to decide and she had a dream that night which made her change her mind once again.

Since meeting, Matty and Laura have become parents to two beautiful daughters.

They welcomed Marlie-Mae in 2019, followed by Lola in February, 2021. The pair got engaged while on holiday in Fiji in April 2018.

The pair welcomed a new addition to their family in March.

The high-profile pair announced on Instagram that they have adopted a kitten named Raspberry.

Laura shared the exciting news alongside a video of the couple’s daughters Marlie-Mae and Lola Ellis meeting their new pet.

‘They say that sometimes you don’t choose the pet, it chooses you. And that was what it felt like when we found our little Raspberry among all the kittens at @sydneydogsandcatshome,’ she wrote.

‘At the start Lola was so timid, she had never seen a kitten before and she was too scared to hold them, but then she spotted a tiny little fluffy tabby.’
