The best and worst dressed at the AACTA film awards

It’s the most prestigious night for the Australian film industry, taking place at The Star in Sydney.

So it should come as no surprise that Australia’s most glamorous stars of the small and silver screen were decked out in their finest on Wednesday night for the AACTAs.

Leading the best dressed arrivals were the likes of E! TV host, Ksenija Lukich, former Miss World Australia, Erin Holland, and actress, Alison McGirr, who plumped for a showstopping green silky gown.

Logie award-winning actress, Melina Vidler, also dazzled in a glittering gold number custom-made by Bronx and Banco, styled by renowned Australian fashion stylist, Donny Galella.

The colour of the night was a mixture of vibrant red and orange, sported by Erin Holland, TV presenter, Edwina Bartholomew and Ksenija Lukich.

Ksenija plumped for a showstopping burnt orange gown by designer-to-the-stars Toni Maticevski. She paired the dramatic, sculptural piece with a centre parting, up do and drop earrings by Sally Skoukis.

Edwina, meanwhile, chose a silky Bianca Spender number, adding Dinosaur Designs earrings and a sweeping fringe.

Like Melina, former Miss World Australia, Erin Holland, was styled by Donny Galella. She wore a Bronx and Banco gown which swept to the floor and showed off her toned back.

The Block's Shaynna Blaze wore a dark blue strapless gown, which she offset with an updo and accessories (pictured)

Actress, Alison McGirr, looked stunning in a green wraparound dress that swept to the floor, while The Block’s Shaynna Blaze wore a dark blue strapless gown, which she offset with an updo and accessories.

Elsewhere on the red carpet, actress Jana Wilkes stunned in a dress made by ‘my talented mum’.

‘My fabulously talented mum made my dress, and my sister suggested the high pony. It’s a family affair,’ she captioned a sweet behind-the-scenes photo.

Bachelorette star, Sophie Monk, also wowed in an unusual black bodice and removable skirt – which she sported with a top knot.

Model turned actress, Emma Booth, turned heads and continued another metallic theme in a plunging glittered dress, complete with sandals, a train and her trademark fiery red hair.

On the more bizarre side of things, Wentworth actress, Danielle Cormack, appeared in a plum-coloured frou frou number – which featured a plunging bodice and floor-sweeping train.

Real Housewives of Sydney’s Melissa Tkautz also hit somewhat of an odd note, with her black, lacy and cutout dress – which looked somewhat as if she’d lost an argument with a shredder.

A Place To Call Home actress, Abby Earl, wore a plunging white pant suit with exaggerated ankles and flared bottoms. The overall look, while close to being a hit, was a little scarecrow.

Home and Away actress, Penny McNamee, was swamped in a split-front green dress, while Natalie Bassingthwaite chose a strange, one-shouldered gown.

The AACTAs aim to honour excellence in Australian film and television, which they have done for 60 years.

First established in 1958, when AFI (the Australian Film Institute) held Australia’s first ever film excellence awards, the awards have since gone on to become a mainstay in the Antipodean cinema diary.

Up for Best Film on Wednesday night is Lion, Berlin Syndrome, Ali’s Wedding, Jasper Jones and Hounds of Love.

There are also Best Direction, Leading Actor, Leading Actress, Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress categories among others.
