The best photographs of 2022: From Bella Hadid’s body paint to Putin’s oversized table

From fabric sprayed on to model Bella Hadid’s body, to Vladimir Putin’s oversized table, the photos that defined the year have been released by AFP.

2022 saw thousands of photos snapped in Ukraine, with photographers capturing fleeing refugees, tearful reunions and the war crimes of Putin’s soldiers over nine months of bloody combat.

The Queen’s funeral and the ascension of King Charles III loomed over the year, while moments of victory were also caught on the faces of election winners Emmanuel Macron and Luis Ignacio Lula de Silva.

Stunning photography explored the autumnal colours of Quebec, alongside the freshwater beeches in Bolivia and the depths of the Mediterranean, contrasted against images of drought and fires that raged across Africa, Europe and the Middle East during the summer months.
