It’s a dream come true for weary travellers, because hotels across America have been rated on the quality of sleep they offer with a hip design hotel in Kentucky coming out on top.
The 21c Museum Hotel Louisville, which sells the mattresses it supplies in its rooms for $1,375 (£992), was declared the winner in a study that collated information from online reviews.
Second on the list was the historic West Baden Springs Hotel in Indiana, with The Spectator Hotel in South Carolina sleepwalking in just behind in third place. Both spots were lauded by guests for providing lavish bedding and sumptuous sheets.

The study, conducted by Mattress Advisor, quizzed 1,010 travellers on social media to see what they had to say about bed comfort in various hotels throughout the country. Researchers also assessed user-generated reviews from Facebook and Google, looking at how guests rated the sleep quality.
It said: ‘To determine the top hotels with the best sleep quality in America, we created a metascore by looking at information gleaned from Facebook star ratings, as well as Google ratings.
‘Additionally, we ran a text analysis on over 150 hotels and 7,000 Facebook reviews to determine a hotel’s average sleep sentiment, which we obtained by counting the number of sleep-related mentions (including beds, mattresses, and pillows) and rating each review as positive or negative.’
For example, The Spectator Hotel in South Carolina has lots of online praise for its sleeping experience and it boasts a 4.9 Google rating.

Coming in at fourth place in the study was the L’Horizon Resort & Spa in Palm Springs, California, which also gets many accolades for its beds, with one reviewer describing their stay as ‘heavenly’.
Fifth was The Lodge on Little St. Simons Island in Georgia.

Suzanne M said of her stay at the hotel: ‘The room is very nice and the bed is one of the most comfortable that I’ve ever slept on. I would live here if I could!’

Trailing behind the southern accommodation is The Little Nell in Aspen, Colorado, which is noted for its comfy pillow top mattresses.
The seventh best hotel for sleep quality was in Greenwood, Mississippi, at a spot called The Alluvian.
Tiki C wrote on Yelp after checking in: ‘The guest rooms are gorgeous and the beds have given me the best sleep I’ve had in over four years!’
The Hotel Emma in Texas, the Historic Park Inn Hotel in Iowa, and Addy’s Villas in Florida were the other spots to round off the top ten.
While these hotels rank bottom of the list, all three received positive mentions of sleep through user-generated reviews posted online.
