The Big Bang Theory fans have mixed reactions as three stars join new spinoff

The Big Bang Theory has confirmed three of its stars will return for an upcoming spinoff.

Development on the latest installment was initially unveiled in April 2023 with co-creator and executive producer Chuck Lorre attached.

Details were kept under wraps, as Lorre told TVLine last November that the show wasn’t fully fleshed out: ‘You don’t talk about the birth until the second trimester, I believe, is the rule. That’s a long way of saying no, I’ve got nothing to say about it other than it’s something that we are discussing.’

Now, it’s been revealed that the show is moving ahead, with Lauren Lapkus, Kevin Sussman, and Brian Posehn confirmed to reprise their roles.

If the show comes to fruition, it will be the third spinoff from the original and fans have so far expressed mixed reactions.

Taking to X upon learning of the update this week, one person asked: ‘How many spinoffs does this show need?’

Someone else predicted, ‘Oh wow. Probably gonna be terrible.’

Another wrote on Elon Musk’s social media platform, ‘Nope it’s done deal not required.’

There was also an opinion that stated the creators ‘just want to make more money.’

‘Some things just belong in the past. Please let it rest,’ someone else added to the discourse.

On the contrary, one person said positively, ‘I know that this will be a hit.’

And another excitedly wrote, ‘Yes, please,’ in all capital letters.

The original Big Bang Theory cast included Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Mayim Bialik, Kunal Nayyar, and Melissa Rauch.

The Big Bang Theory wrapped its 279th and final episode of the CBS show’s 12-season run in April 2019.

Earlier this year Parsons reprised his breakout role as physicist Sheldon Cooper at Caltech for the finale of the spin-off series Young Sheldon.

He said it turned out to be both ‘very weird’ but ‘very beautiful.’

‘Big Bang Theory was always a live-audience show and Young Sheldon is a single-camera show,’ he explained to Today host Craig Melvin in March.

He added, ‘And I got to do it with Mayim — we both played Sheldon and Amy in the series. And to do it in that situation, it was just different enough that it wasn’t creepy.’

Young Sheldon, starring Iain Armitage as the boy genius version of Sheldon, ended its seven-season run on May 16.

Mayim joined Parsons in reprising her role from the parent series as Amy Farrah Fowler.

Parsons said, ‘It felt like the nicest little coda to the whole experience, and I was grateful that they asked us to do it.’
