The Biggest Loser star Steve ‘Commando’ Willis announces exciting TV comeback

A former star of The Biggest Loser is set to return to TV screens after a long absence.

Steve ‘Commando’ Willis, who is best known for his role as a trainer on the weight loss show, has announced he will be back with a brand new show.

Willis, 48, will be stepping in front of the camera again for the first time since he appeared on Survivor Australia in 2018.

The celebrity trainer will be co-hosting the fourth season of the 7Mate show, Search4Hurt, which sees fitness enthusiasts train with experts in a series of gruelling challenges.

On The Biggest Loser, ‘The Commando’ was known for his hard-hitting, gruff persona, but Willis told the Daily Telegraph on Friday that he has softened his image since then.

‘People associate me to that physicality and that’s great, but as I get older I’ve realised life isn’t all just about that physicality and [it’s about] being able to use life’s experiences, wisdom, and knowledge to be a mentor and a role model,’ he said.

Steve went on to reflect on his time on The Biggest Loser, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity the show gave him to share his talents.

‘To have an influence and to share my knowledge and to help [the contestants] with their habits and behaviours was extremely rewarding, and that’s something I used to go to work with every day,’ said Willis.

‘I understood it was about getting eyeballs and doing all of that, but at the heart of it were real human beings and they needed help and I gave my help to the best of my ability, also playing a role in a character,’ he added.

Willis shot to fame on hit weight loss show in 2007 when the former soldier found love with co-star Michelle Bridges.

Prior to their split in 2020, the former power couple built a fitness empire together and Willis published books such as Commando Steve: No Excuses and Get Commando Fit – and he even starred on a season of Australian Survivor.

But following his split from Bridges and exit from The Biggest Loser in 2015, the 48-year-old Willis largely slid out of public view, leaving fans wondering what he was up to.

Despite being away from television for a few years, Commando is still a significant player in the fitness industry.

He currently runs his own gym in Sydney called Get Commando Fit, in addition to working as a personal trainer and offering online classes.

Willis also runs a children’s fitness program called Commando Kids and hosts his own gruelling fitness camps.

His personal life has also flourished, finding love with former F45 trainer  Vancuylenberg.

The couple apparently met in November 2019 when Harika attended one of Steve’s fitness retreats in Tahiti, and confirmed their relationship in July 2020.
