The Block host Scott Cam rubbishes rumours he’s going to be replaced on the show by Jamie Durie

The Block’s long-time host Scott Cam has hit back at rumours he’s leaving the show and is set to be replaced by former host, Jamie Durie.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia on Friday ahead of The Block’s finale, fan favourite Scotty was adamant he won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

The 57-year-old insisted he’ll be on the hit Channel Nine show ‘until we stop making it.’

‘I’m signed up for a long time and I’m on the next one,’ Scotty said.

‘There’s been a few rumours, I don’t know who started them, that I’m leaving.’

He went on to say how much he loves making the show.

Scotty praised the ‘family friendly’ program and said he believes it’s such a hit with viewers because people are always renovating their homes.

‘It’s good old-fashioned family viewing,’ Scotty said.

‘Mum, dad, the three kids can all sit back and watch it. You don’t have to think to hard, you can just watch it and see people renovating and lots of people renovate all the time and it’s a bit of insight to get ideas.’

He added: ‘And it’s showing what mums and dads are doing in their homes on the weekend, renovating their own homes, painting and things like that. People can relate to the contestants because they’re everyday people and just like them.’

When asked which team will win the hit series this year, Scotty thinks it’s too hard to tell.

‘That’s too hard to say, we have no control over the auction. It’s up to the buyers and we don’t know what the buyers are going to do,’ he said.

‘And I’ve got no idea and I’ve never got any idea of who is going to win this… All the houses are incredible and all the teams are amazing. It all comes down to the emotional connection that the buyer feels…. and all a matter of opinion.’

He added that he’s proud of the way the cast and crew handled the coronavirus shut down on The Block, earlier this year.

‘It was a credit to everybody, we were looking after our people, they came first and the TV show came second, but everybody knuckled down and did the right thing, social distancing, temperature checks. Credit to every body that we got it finished,’ he said.

Last month, Scotty hit back at rumours he was leaving The Block, only to be replaced by former host Jamie Durie, 50.

‘I have been at Channel 9 for 21 years on a permanent basis and I have got a few good years left in some contracts, so I reckon I am staying put,’ he told The Herald Sun.

Executive producer Julian Cress added that Scott, who began hosting The Block in 2010, was ‘an integral organ that without him there simply wouldn’t be a show’.

‘As long as Dave [Barbour, The Block creator], Justin and I are making The Block Scotty will be the host,’ he said.

In September, New Idea claimed that viewers were ready for a change in hosts, and that Jamie (who previously hosed The Block from 2003-2004) could be next in line.

The claims were largely improbable, however, given that Jaime is already the host of The Block’s rival renovation program House Rules.
