The Block producer ‘TERRIFIED’ all five houses won’t sell

It’s been a ratings sensation for Channel Nine.

But The Block’s grand finale could come to a disastrous conclusion if not all the houses sell at auction over the weekend.

In an interview with news.com.au, the reality show’s co-creator and executive producer Julian Cress revealed he is ‘terrified’ that one of the five renovated residences may not find a buyer.

‘The clearance rate in Melbourne last weekend was 76 per cent and we are selling five houses on the same day and hoping for a 100 per cent clearance,’ Julian told the website.

The homes are located in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburb of Elsternwick, and agents are quoting between $2.4 and $2.9 million for each of the five abodes.

All up, that’s an eye-watering $14 million worth of real estate to be sold.

Julian concedes that monumental figure is a ‘a big ask’.

He told news.com.au: ‘What terrifies me in the lead up to all auctions is that we’ve seen these guys work their guts out for three months to build these homes and we feel that they deserve something’.

In 2014 The Block: Glasshouse contestants Darren and Deanne Jolly famously suffered heartbreak after their apartment only netted them $10,000 in profit.

'A big ask': With last weekend's auction clearance rate at just 76 per cent, The Block will have to defy statistics to sell all the properties

‘I flogged myself to the edge numerous times to give something to our kids and help us kickstart our business and get something going. It was really flattening,’ Darren told The Sydney Morning Herald at the time.

However, there’s huge interest in this season’s five homes, set to go under the hammer on Saturday.

News.com.au reports that Josh and Elyse are the favourites to win the show, generating buzz for their lavish property.
