The Block winners Alisa and Lysandra make over $70,000 in sales in a month with Al.ive beauty brand

The Block winners Alisa and Lysandra Fraser have revealed how they managed to make over $70,000 in sales in under a month with their debut beauty brand AL.ive.

The twin sisters launched AL.ive in the midst of a national shutdown during the coronavirus pandemic, but said that didn’t deter them from being successful.

‘It has worked well for us because e-commerce in general has picked up and we are finding a lot of demand from boutique online stores,’ the sisters told FEMAIL.

Alisa and Lysandra’s beauty range includes naturally-derived hand and body wash and hand and body lotion, in a choice of three scents: kaffir lime and green tea; fig, apricot and sage; and coconut and wild orange.

The pair explained that the idea for AL.ive came to them after renovating.

‘We were sitting on the beach just after we’d finished styling our Albert Park renovation project and we were reflecting on how difficult it had been to find unique hand and body products that complement the aesthetic of our home, but also provide a natural, non-toxic formulation,’ Alisa said.

‘We considered partnering with other brands to have a role in designing a product, but then we realised we could dream bigger… we could build our own brand.’

One of the most important things for Alisa and Lysandra to focus on was the bottles (pictured), which they wanted to look stylish in a home

The pair developed a vision of exactly what they wanted their products to look like and how they were going to bring them into fruition.

‘We knew what we wanted and it had to be perfect, which did come at a bit of a cost both emotionally and financially,’ Lysandra admitted.

‘But we knew we had to be particular if we wanted a personal care range that marries high-end product design and integrity with the demands of the conscious consumer.’

A key part of the AL.ive business model is that for every purchase made, one tree will be planted in Australia by charity partner One Tree Planted.

The range uses Australian and natural ingredients and is stocked online in various outlets, as well as in boutiques and well-being stores.

While the range is brand new, already the products – which sell for $38 and $42 separately or $79 as a duo – have rave reviews.

‘Lovely packaging, smells delicious and we are looking forward to a refill option becoming available,’ one recent reviewer posted.

‘It’s Australian made with natural ingredients, what more can you ask for?’

Another added: ‘This duo is amazing! The design is oh so clever and I cannot stop looking at it sitting pretty in my bathroom’.

Others highlighted the ‘quality’ and ‘beauty’ of the products, which already boast five star ratings.

‘As interior designers, aesthetic yet highly-functional beauty is a focus of all of our spatial transformations,’ Alisa said of their bottles.

‘It’s our belief that our surroundings largely define the way that we feel, and consequently shape the quality of our daily lives.’

Within one month of launching, many of the products have already sold out online several times, with new stock coming through in various stages.

The sisters have also made an impressive $70,000 in just one month of existing.

‘While it’s early days, we are firm believers that successful business owners are the ones who know every aspect of their business from the ground up,’ Lysandra said.

‘We have developed not just the product, but every process involved in getting this product out to our customers.’

She added as advice to other would-be entrepreneurs: ‘Anyone looking to start a business should be steering their ship and know exactly where it is headed.’

The twin sisters from Adelaide first appeared on Season 7, The Block: Sky High, where they won the season and took home $295,000 profit from the auction and a total $395,000 in total winnings.

During that season they won five room reveals — one of which was a perfect score.

The pair came back the following year for Season 8, where they only took out two room reveal wins. When it came to the auction the sisters won a total of $616,000.
