The verdict is finally in for Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s highly controversial $100 million defamation trial, with the jury ruling firmly in favor of the Pirates of the Caribbean star, stating that he was defamed by his former spouse who has been ordered to pay him $15 million in punitive and compensatory damages after accusing him of physical and sexual abuse. 

Heard was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages out of the $100million she was seeking in her countersuit against her ex-husband. She was awarded zero dollars in punitive damages. 

Every aspect of the trial has been heavily covered by the media and compulsively analyzed by thousands of fans around the world – many of whom have been captivated and stunned by the accusations of abuse raised during the bitter legal battle between Depp, 58, and Heard, 36. 

But beyond the many revelations and allegations brought to light during the proceedings, the court case watched around the world has also shot several new faces into the spotlight – from members of the two legal teams to witnesses on the stand. 

Some witnesses were lauded as ‘heroes’ online for their bold behavior on the stand – like the ex TMZ reporter who was praised for furiously clapping back at Heard’s attorney when she accused him of using his testimony to gain his 15 minutes of fame – while Depp’s firebrand lawyer Camille Vasquez has quickly become a celebrity in her own right among fans of the actor, many of whom lauded her ‘annihilation’ of Heard on the stand. 

Depp and Heard – who tied the knot in 2015, and were married for one year before Heard filed for divorce in 2016 – have been battling it out in court in recent weeks. 

The trial, which took place in Virginia, was held to determine whether a 2018 Washington Post essay written by Heard, in which she accused the actor of domestic abuse, defamed Depp – which a jury has now ruled was in fact the case. 

Depp was accused of slapping the American actress three times in 2013, after she laughed at his infamous ‘Wino Forever’ tattoo, and attacking her in a cocaine and alcohol-fueled tirade over accusations that she cheated on him with James Franco. 

Attorneys for Heard argued that she told the truth in her piece, and that her opinion was protected as free speech under the U.S. Constitution’s First Amendment. 

As the weeks-long trial finally reaches a conclusion, FEMAIL has taken a look back at the all the people who have earned their own form of fame throughout the lengthy legal proceedings.

From Depp’s lawyer and rumored love interest, Vasquez, to his longtime friend who broke down in tears over the accusations, here’s all the people who earned online stardom after participating in the trial. 

‘The best comeback of the trial’: Ex-TMZ reporter Morgan Tremaine

Ex TMZ reporter Morgan Tremaine was branded a ‘king’ and ‘the MVP’ when he clapped back at Heard’s lawyer after she accused him of only taking the stand to seek ’15 minutes of fame.’

Tremaine, who worked as TMZ’s former field assignment manager, was called by Depp’s team to testify in court last week, in which he discussed a series of photos taken by the gossip site of Heard in 2016.

The pictures in question showed the actress leaving court after filing for a restraining order against Depp, with what appeared to be a bruise on her cheek. But according to Tremaine, they were tipped off about the photo op – although he didn’t specify who gave them the tip. 

During her cross examination, Heard’s attorney Elaine Bredehoft accused Tremaine of speaking out about the matter in an attempt to get attention, but he quickly shut those rumors down, explaining that he was actually making himself a ‘target’ by taking the stand and stating, ‘I gain nothing from this.’ 

He then fired back at the lawyer and told her that he could ‘say the same thing’ about her taking Heard as a client – and his sassy clapback soon took the internet by storm.

‘You know this case is being televised, right?’ Bredehoft asked Tremaine during her cross examination. 

‘I am aware that there are cameras,’ he responded.

‘So this gets you your 15 minutes of fame, doesn’t it?’ she then suggested.

Although Depp’s lawyer objected to her question, the judge overruled the objection – prompting Tremaine to turn Bredehoft’s question back on her.

‘I stand to gain nothing from this. I’m actually putting myself in the target of TMZ, a very litigious organization and I’m not seeking any 15 minutes here. But you’re welcome to speculate. I can say the same thing – by taking Amber Heard as a client – for you,’ he fired back.

‘A little argumentative, don’t you think?’ Bredehoft then asked him, taken aback.

Tremaine said, ‘Oh hardly, I find that to be purely logical.’

Depp’s lawyers appeared to be entertained by his response, and they erupted into laughter. Depp let out a small smile as his legal team giggled at the back and forth.

The journalist’s ‘savage burn’ quickly went viral, and many social media users started vehemently supporting the former TMZ staffer. 

‘Morgan Tremaine was the mother f**kin’ MVP of the day,’ wrote one person afterwards.

Another added, ‘Yes! Elaine Bredehoft needs some ointment for that burn.’

‘Touché b***h,’ read a third tweet, while someone else said, ‘I want to get this video tattooed on my forehead.’

‘Morgan Tremaine earned his 15 minutes of fame, even though he didn’t want it,’ joked a different user.

‘Savage mode activated,’ wrote another.

Others called the moment ‘absolute gold’ and ‘iconic,’ while one person wrote that he ‘f**king slayed.’

‘Buy that man a beer or 10… Hero,’ gushed someone else.

‘That man sat down and said, “Not today, honey.” Love it,’ wrote a different Twitter user.

Another person added, ‘Mic drop! Amber is done.’

‘This was the best comeback of the trial. Feel sorry for Elaine,’ read another tweet.

‘That snap back,’ wrote one user, alongside a clapping emoji. ‘She shot, he dodged, then shot back at her right between the eyes.’

During his testimony, Tremaine told the jury that the outlet was tipped off when they photographed Heard going to court in Los Angeles, California, in May 2016 – and that it was assumed she was going to ‘display the bruise’ that was allegedly caused by her ex.

He said: ‘The objective was to capture her leaving the courthouse and she was going to stop and turn to the camera and display the bruise.’

While Tremaine did not reveal the source of the tip, he said that it came from a news producer, meaning that it would have been verified.

Heard has testified that she was shocked to see photographers outside the court after a judge awarded her a restraining order against Depp.

The court previously heard claims that Heard’s team leaked the video of Depp smashing up his kitchen to TMZ.

While Tremaine did not confirm this, he said that the video sent to TMZ was shorter than the one shown to the jury, meaning it had been edited.

In the version TMZ received from its anonymous tip line, the part where Heard was ‘sniggering at the camera,’ was cut out, Tremaine said.

‘The real hero in this trial’: Clinical psychologist Shannon Curry

Clinical psychologist Shannon Curry also became an internet sensation after she testified during the trial.

Back in April, the doctor, who was hired to review Heard and Depp’s relationship, claimed that the Aquaman star suffers from two personality disorders.

The clinical and forensic psychologist told the court that she concluded Heard had traits consistent with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), as well as Histrionic Personality Disorder (HPD) – two conditions found in people with patterns of emotional instability and attention-seeking behavior. 

While conducting her evaluation, Curry explained she reviewed various case materials including Heard’s medical records, mental health treatment records, court exhibits, witness statements, and audio and video recordings. 

She also met with the Heard for several hours over the course of two separate dates in December 2021, before finally coming to a diagnosis. 

She also returned to the stand on May 25 to rebut testimony made by clinical psychologist Dawn Hughes, who was called by Heard’s team as a defense witness,

Hughes claimed she diagnosed Heard with PTSD as a result of what she described as intimate partner violence experienced during her relationship with Depp.

However, Curry said she concluded that Heard ‘grossly exaggerated’ her post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after her relationship with Depp ended. 

Many people took to social media to gush over the psychologist after her testimony, with one calling her the ‘real hero’ of the trial.

‘All hail the queen,’ another wrote, while a third said, ‘Dr. Shannon Curry is gonna be a big inspiration for me when I start majoring psychology, Much love for her.’

‘Ladies and gents… THIS is what competence on the stand looks like,’ a fourth tweet read.

Someone else tweeted, ‘Dr. Shannon Curry just slayed the court like a queen. Even when Elaine was way unprofessional and rude to her, she still kept her cool and professionalism. Much respect to Dr. Curry. We love you, Dr. Curry.’

‘Huge thanks to Johnny Depp’s legal team for introducing Dr. Shannon Curry to the world,’ wrote another supporter.

‘She’s an incredible woman and an accomplished psychologist. Someone to look up to for sure.’ 

During her testimony, Dr. Curry noted that Heard’s BPD was marked by an ‘underlying terror of abandonment,’ and added that somebody with the condition often tends to make ‘desperate attempts’ to stop it from happening. These could be ‘very extreme behaviors,’ she added. 

Curry also said that as a result of these disorders, somebody like Heard could appear charming at the start of a friendship or relationship, but that they could then turn dark easily. 

‘You’ll see relationships start very intensely, extremely close,’ she said. ‘This might be their perfect soulmate and initially everything seems great but reality sets in, people are not perfect.

‘Most of us accept people as a whole, [but] with a person with BPD, things are in these extremes – that person goes from being idealized to dumpster, they are totally devalued, they’re the worst. Then there will be a repair because the person with this disorder does feel remorse.’

Curry stated that somebody with BPD is usually ‘very, very interested in looks and utilizes their looks to get the respect they’re looking for.’

Curry called Heard a ‘sophisticated’ and ‘calculated’ case of BPD – adding that from her analysis, Heard seemed like somebody who would ‘hit you where it hurts’ and that she could be ‘very, very destructive.’

Meanwhile, the hallmarks of HPD, Dr. Curry explained, include an ‘overly dramatic presentation’ and ‘quick shifts between emotions,’ such as going from animated to sad very quickly.

Those with HPD have a ‘hypersensitivity to being slighted’ and could melt down in the middle of a restaurant if somebody showed up two minutes later, Curry said.

She added: ‘They will make a lot of accusations, reactivity, a lot of escalation, they can react aggressively, physically prevent partners from trying to leave.

‘Often they will be abusive to their partners, sometimes physically restrain them.’

She stated that people with HPD, such as Heard, live a life marked by ‘drama and shallowness,’ adding that the underlying drive is to ‘always be the center of attention’ and without it, a person with HPD would feel ‘pretty empty.’

‘Queen behavior’: Supermodel Kate Moss wows the internet with her three-minute testimony

Many people on the internet were cheering when Kate Moss gave testimony defending Depp in his trial against Heard.

The notoriously-private supermodel put aside her infamous hatred of interviews and the media in order to rush to Depp’s aid in court last week, taking to the stand on his behalf and delivering a sensational blow to Heard’s case by squashing the actress’ claim that Depp once pushed his supermodel ex down a flight of stairs.

Afterwards, many people took to Twitter to share their thoughts. 

‘Kate Moss came, spat facts, called amber heard a liar in front of thousands of people and left. Queen behavior if you ask me,’ wrote one person.

‘I’ve never had an opinion on Kate Moss, but the amount of respect and admiration I have for that woman now is off the charts,’ said someone else.

’25 years after they split, she has the elegance and grace to come forward when he needed her. She is a d**n queen!’

Another added, ‘Wednesday, May 25, the day you shall always remember as the day Kate Moss ended Amber Heard.’

During Heard’s testimony earlier this month, the actress alleged that Depp once shoved Moss down a flight of stairs – but according to Moss, who dated Depp from 1994 to 1998, the Hollywood heartthrob actually helped her after she accidentally slipped.

Heard made the claim while discussing an argument that she allegedly had with Depp at the top of a staircase, when she said her sister, Whitney Heard, stepped in between them.

‘She threw herself in the line of fire. She was trying to get Johnny to stop. Her back was to the staircase, and Johnny swings at her. I don’t hesitate and wait – I instantly think of Kate Moss and stairs,’ she said. ‘And I swung at him.’

Moss said during her testimony that Depp never ‘pushed her or threw her down any stairs,’ in fact, she said that he tended to her after she tripped during a trip they took to Jamaica together.

‘We were leaving the room and Johnny left the room before I did. There had been a rainstorm and as I left the room I slid down the stairs,’ she recalled, while testifying via video link.

‘I hurt my back, and I screamed because I didn’t know what had happened.’

She said Depp came running back to help her, adding that he ‘carried her to her room and got her medical attention.’

When asked directly by Depp’s team if the Pirates of the Caribbean star ever pushed her down the stairs, Moss replied, ‘No.’

‘No, he never pushed me, kicked me or threw me down any stairs,’ she told the court.

The actor and the British entrepreneur were together for just over three years in the ’90s, and when Depp dumped Moss so he could focus his full attention on his career, she admitted she was devastated for ‘years’ over the breakup.

However, when she took the stand to defend her ex in court, it appeared as though she had nothing but warm feelings towards him, smiling at the mere thought of her past love with the movie star.

Depp also struggled to contain his joy, letting out a small grin as she spoke to the court room about their ’90s romance.

Many viewers of the trial – which is being livestreamed online – were quick to notice the exes’ happy compositions throughout the testimony, and they started to suggest that the pair should start dating again.

Throughout the trial, Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez has become wildly popular with social media users, earning viral fame again and again for her bold behavior in the courtroom, as well as her personal chemistry with her famous client. 

Vasquez first became an online sensation earlier this month when she cross-examined Heard, with some fans claiming that she ‘annihilated’ and ‘obliterated’ the star with her questions.

Vasquez said to Heard during the cross examination: ‘Your lies have been exposed to the world multiple times?’ to which Heard responded, ‘I haven’t lied about anything.’ 

she then asked her, ‘When you told this jury you punched Mr. Depp because you thought of Mr. Depp pushing Kate Moss down the stairs, you didn’t expect Miss Moss to testify that never happened?’

Heard answered, ‘Incorrect, I knew how many people will come out of the woodwork to support Johnny.’

Vasquez also pressed Heard about many other inconsistencies and accusations, and she even became short with Heard when she started to talk to the jury at one point.

‘There is no question pending so I’d appreciate it if you wouldn’t make an argument to the jury. It’s inappropriate,’ Vasquez snapped at Heard.

Vaquez was born in July 1984 to parents Leonel and Marilia Vasquez, who are of Colombian descent. They live in a $1 million home in Buena Park, according to public records. 

Her father once owned a UPS Store in Anaheim. The location has been a FedEx store for the past 10 years, an employee previously told DailyMail.com.

Vasquez graduated from the University of Southern California with a bachelor’s degree in arts, communications and political science in 2006, Newsweek reported.

The fluent Spanish speaker went to Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles from 2007 to 2010 and worked at one law firm before joining her current practice, Brown Rudnick LLP, as an associate.

She focuses on ‘plaintiff-side defamation suits, with additional experience litigating contract disputes, business-related torts, and employment-related claims,’ according to her bio on the law firm’s website.

She’s also listed as having ‘extensive experience handling parallel reputation management and crisis communications issues arising from these engagements.’ She does not have any public social media profiles.

Fans started to wonder if romantic feelings had developed between Depp and Vasquez in recent weeks, after they noticed a slew of flirty interactions between the two – including whispering in each other’s ears, giggling together, and sharing coy smirks with one another. 

Rumors of a budding romance were fueled after a video of the Pirates of the Caribbean star helping the lawyer untangle her iPhone charger went viral on TikTok last month. He was also spotted pulling out her chair for her. 

However, body language expert Judi James explained exclusively to DailyMail.com that the amorous moments between them are most likely not due to a secret affair, but instead, are all part of a plan to make Depp seem like a ‘romantic hero.’ 

She said that linking Depp to a ‘fresh, smart, fragrant, and confident-looking woman’ would ‘destroy’ Heard’s recount of their toxic relationship. 

Some people on social media have also pointed out that Vasquez appears to be wearing an engagement or wedding ring during her court appearances, but since she keeps her personal life so private, it’s unclear whether or not she’s in a relationship.

People have also shown love for Depp’s other lawyer Benjamin Chew, with many praising his close courtroom relationship with the actor.

Oftentimes during the trial, the two have been seen smiling at one another and giggling together, and the internet can’t get enough of their friendship.

‘Get you a lawyer like Ben Chew! Mad respect for him,’ wrote one supporter.

‘Ben Chew, thank you for everything,’ said another.

Someone else gushed, alongside a snap of Chew and Depp together, ‘The best power team ever! A five star team… Second to NO other! Friendship. Devotion. Respect. Loyalty. Lifetime Bonds. Alliance.’

Chew also appeared to get emotional at one point during the trial when he mentioned Depp’s children, Lily-Rose and Jack, with many fans pointing to this as a sign that he ‘truly cares for’ and ‘believes in his client. 

‘Ben Chew showing heartfelt emotions getting choked up in closing, clenched my heart,’ one person wrote. ‘They have been on this case for years and have grown to care for each other so much.’

The lawyer also won a legion of fans last week when he was seen being given a stuffed alpaca toy by a supporter outside of the courtroom – which he then proceeded to put into his pocket, where it remained even as he addressed Judge Penney Azcarate.

‘I fell in love with this guy within minutes’: Depp’s longtime friend Isaac Baruch 

Depp’s longtime friend Isaac Baruch stole the internet’s hearts when he took to the stand in April.

Baruch, who became close with the Pirates of the Caribbean star when they were young, broke down in tears as he testified for his longtime pal.

‘I want this all to end – her to go heal, him to go heal,’ he said as he became emotional.

‘So many people have been affected by this malicious lie that she started and she created. It’s not fair, it’s not right what she did, and what happened.’ 

Baruch knew Depp since they were teenagers growing up in Florida, and has been described as his best friend.

He later moved to California, where he worked as a musician and artist, as well as the office manager at the notorious Viper Room club in Los Angeles – which Depp used to own. 

Baruch testified that Depp loved his artwork so much that he let him live rent free in a penthouse apartment he owned in the Eastern Columbia Building and paid him around $100,000 during the three years he lived there so he could work on his art. 

He testified that he never saw Depp or Heard being violent to each other and that he only saw them argue twice.

His tearful testimony was talked about by many people on the internet, with one calling him a ‘legend’ for speaking out, and another claiming they instantly fell in love with Baruch.

‘I fell in love with this guy within minutes,’ they wrote.

Another person said his testimony will ‘live with them forever,’ while a third added, ‘Isaac Baruch getting emotional while taking the stand about how many lives Amber Heard’s lies have affected really explains this whole lawsuit to everyone because what this man said truly speaks for itself.’

The artist was propelled into internet stardom after his testimony and gained thousand of followers on Instagram – rising from just 200 to 18,000 followers in a matter of weeks. 

‘The real stars of the this trial’: The alpacas

Every day, a slew of fans and supporters line up outside the courthouse in the hopes of getting a glimpse of Depp – and some have even brought live alpacas with them, which have taken a center stage in the trial.

Many people were amused by the fact that fans have been bringing the animal to the trial, and pictures of them have since gone viral on social media. 

The animal is symbolic in the case since it was used in a quote from Depp about his relationship with Disney after Heard released her op-ed about him in 2018.

Days after the article came out, he was dropped by the company, and his lawyers have argued that the essay was to blame. 

Depp reportedly claimed at the time that he would not return for another Pirates movie even if Disney offered him $300 million and a million alpacas. And now, fans are bringing the animal to court in an attempt to show their support.

Depp’s lawyer Chew was even spotted bringing a stuffed alpaca with him into the courtroom earlier this month.

‘How not to act in court’: The bitter criticism of Heard’s legal team Elaine Bredehoft and Ben Rottenborn

Members of Heard’s legal team have become well known for their part – but for very different reasons than Depp’s lawyers.

Back in April, TikTok conspiracists circulated a wild theory that Heard’s lawyer Bredehoft was a secret Depp fan, after they spotted a lookalike woman in the crowd at his movie premiere in 2013. 

Some TikTok users became convinced that the attorney was a secret supporter of the Pirates of the Caribbean star – after they noticed that someone who looked a lot like her was seen waiting outside of an event Depp attended in 2013, attempting to get a glimpse of the Hollywood leading man. 

A woman with short brown hair – similar to Bredehoft’s – could be seen eagerly waiting behind a barricade with a camera in hand as Depp made his way to the red carpet in a YouTube video that was filmed at the Lone Ranger premiere in London, England, on July 20, 2013. 

Due to their alike features, many people on the internet were convinced that the doting supporter was actually Bredehoft. 

One person posted the clip to TikTok and wrote, ‘Amber’s lawyer is a Depp fan,’ while the well-known TikTok sound that says, ‘Oh my God, who is that?’ played in the background.

The video quickly took the internet by storm, gaining more than 11 million views in a matter of days, and it left many people on the internet stunned over the woman’s resemblance to Bredehoft.

It’s unclear if the woman in question is actually Heard’s lawyer, but numerous social media users are now convinced that it’s her.

‘She probably took the job just to see him all day long,’ joked one viewer in the comment section of the viral video.

‘What if she is purposely doing bad, so that Johnny can win and she actually likes him?’ theorized another.

Someone else commented, ‘I’m convinced she became her lawyer to see him.’

‘Even Amber’s team are on Johnny’s side,’ added a different user.

Other comments read, ‘Wait a damn minute,’ and, ‘Oh Hell naw, I thought it couldn’t get better.’

‘I cannot tell you how hard I laughed seeing this,’ wrote another person. ‘I really hope Amber sees this.’

‘[Whoever] noticed this is really a genius,’ someone else said.

Throughout the course of the trial, Bredehoft, along with Heard’s other attorney Ben Rottenborn, have received a lot of negative comments online for representing Heard in court.

‘Law schools will now use Elaine and Rottenborn as an example of how to not act in court!’ wrote one person.

Another said, ‘Rottenborn and Bredehoft have absolutely zero dignity or integrity.’ 

Others accused Bredehoft of ‘lying’ during her closing statement and ‘misrepresenting witnesses and evidence.’ However, some have defended the lawyer. 

‘Can we all agree that Amber’s lawyers, at least Elaine Bredehoft, don’t deserve the horrible online hate that should only be directed at Amber? They just got hired for a job. It’s not personal,’ read one tweet.

‘I do feel sorry for #ElaineBredehoft I’m 1000 per cent team Johnny but apparently Elaine was crying after court and she can’t help that she had the worst client a lawyer can get,’ added another person. 

‘What can you do when you have to represent evil? She probably is a great lawyer under normal circumstances.’
