The incident took place the day before Wrestlemania 34.

The New Orleans Police Department released a statement on the battery incident.

‘The NOPD is investigating a simple battery incident that occurred on April 7, 2018 in the 500 block of Canal Street. The victim told police that at about 11am, he was signing autographs at the location when he was approached by a known subject, later identified as Harry Smith,’ the report said.

The penalty for battery in Louisiana can be up to six months of jail time or a fine of up to $1,000.

Speaking to WrestleZone, Smith admitted to the incident.

He said that Roberts refused to apologize to him for ‘disparaging comments’ he made about his late father The British Bulldog aka Davey Boy Smith, whose career flourished in the 1980s to 2000s, in several podcasts.

Smith confronted him about the comments and Roberts refused to talk engage in conversation, inciting Smith to ask Roberts to step outside so the two could settle the matter with a fight.
