The comeback queen! State of Origin viewers praise Tina Turner star Ruva Ngwenya’s ‘amazing’ rendition of the national anthem – after singer’s ‘tragic’ performance at NRL grand final

State of Origin viewers were absolutely stunned by stage actress Ruva Ngwenya’s soaring rendition of the national anthem at Game Three in Brisbane on Wednesday.

The Tina Turner Musical star, 31, who was slammed on social media last year for her ‘tragic’ performance at the NRL Grand Final, took to the stage at Suncorp Stadium and blew the crowd away with her heartfelt take on Advance Australia Fair.

NRL fans quickly took to social media to praise the former Neighbours actress for bringing her A-Game to the renowned sporting match.

‘Ruva Ngwenya has a fair set of lungs on her,’ one fan gushed.

‘Now that’s how you sing an anthem,’ a second person wrote, adding an okay hand and fire emoji.

‘The girl who sang the National Anthem was amazing,’ commented a third viewer, alongside three clapping hand emojis.

Elsewhere, one fan remembered the seasoned pro from her NRL Grand Final performance.

‘Double dipping on the musical ‘Tina’ wasn’t on my Origin bingo card,’ they wrote.

Ruva looked regal on the night in a black, floor-length ensemble that featured eye-catching shoulder details.

She wore her hair swept up into a majestic do, and accessorised her stunning look with gold jewellery.

The viewer reaction to her performance was world’s away from when she played at the NRL Grand Final in October dressed up as the late Tina Turner, and performed a medley of her most iconic songs.

At the time, viewers labelled her singing ‘tragic’ and a poor ‘tribute act’ to Turner, who was renowned for performing with gusto at the NRL Grand Finals in the 1990s.

Many watching were unimpressed, with several viewers comparing the cover act to something you’d see at a local RSL and mocking the act with hilarious memes.

‘Looks like the NRL got their entertainment from the Rooty Hill RSL,’ wrote one person on social media.

”This Tina Turner impersonator is something you’d see at the Rooty Hill RSL with a free standard drink coupon. F***ing tragic,’ said another.

Fortunately, Ruva’s incredible performance at Wednesday’s match redeemed her in the eyes, of fans, who could not stop gushing over her singing.
