Keeping tomato ketchup in the fridge or in the cupboard is a debate that always divides foodies, with some claiming it’s safe to leave out and others insisting it must stay chilled.
Now Popsugar has compiled a guide to the best places to keep you condiments to preserve the flavour and make sure they’re safe to eat – and the tips may well surprise you.
While it may seem obvious that a sauce such as mayonnaise should remain in the fridge because it contains eggs, oils that you might usually keep in the cupboard such as sesame oil, should be refrigerated.
Mould can form on maple syrup if you leave it out, so make sure to keep it in the fridge or even the freezer so that it lasts indefinitely. It will not freeze solid
Opened tomato ketchup can last safely for a month in the cupboard, but after that you should put it in the fridge. Unrefined oils made with nuts, such as sesame and peanut, should be kept in the fridge to stop them going rancid
