The Cosby Show star Geoffrey Owens is proud ‘beyond words’ of his son’s acting debut in Netflix series Uncoupled

The Cosby Show alumnus Geoffrey Owens couldn’t be any prouder of his son Jordyn Owens following his big break into the entertainment business.

The 61-year-old actor, best known for playing Elvin Tibideaux on the hit 1980s sitcom for five seasons, walked the red carpet on Tuesday alongside Jordyn for the New York premiere of Netflix’s Uncoupled.

The romantic comedy series, in which the 23-year-old plays the character Trey, is his first on-screen role as an actor.

Proud papa: Geoffrey Owens, best known for playing Elvin Tibideaux on hit sitcom The Cosby Show, proudly supported his son Jordyn Owens on the red carpet for the premiere of his new series Uncoupled on Tuesday

‘I’m beyond words proud,’ Geoffrey told Page Six of his son’s accomplishment. ‘I’m speechless.’

Jordyn strutted out in front of the sea of fans and photographers looking strikingly handsome in a black suit with a matching top and boots.

His dad joined him for a few moments, looking dapper in a black suit with a white button-down and brown shoes.

Geoffrey, who starred on The Cosby Show from 1985–1992, has been focused on theater acting and teaching Shakespeare in more recent times.

But over the years he said he’s tried to pass off his acting experience and wisdom to his son, both in terms of working together on his craft as well as the business as a whole.

Up until landing the role of Trey on Uncoupled, Jordyn worked as a model on top of playing guard for the University of Massachusetts Lowell’s basketball team.

And in the last couple of years he’s developed an unexpected career as a painter, which resulted in him making an appearance on the Today show to discuss his artwork.

‘I’ve observed it over the years,’ Geoffrey said of Jordyn’s star power and ability to turn heads. ‘I’ve been observing it for the last five or six years.’

Jordyn has been open and forthright about his good fortune in landing a role acting opposite of such a great cast that includes Neil Patrick Harris, Tisha Campbell and Marcia Gay Harden, exclaiming that, ‘especially for a first project, it doesn’t get any better than this.’

‘Beyond blessed (cliché I know) to have made my appearance with some of the best in the business, great experience , always thankful,’ he gushed on Instagram on Saturday, July 30, along with a red heart emoji.

Uncoupled, the latest show from Sex and the City and Emily in Paris creator Darren Star, stars Harris as Michael, a newly single gay man fresh off a 17-year relationship who has to learn how to date again in a completely new era, all while grieving his unexpected breakup.

Season one of Uncoupled made its premiere on Netflix on July 29.
