The cringeworthy moment Sunrise co-hosts Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington show off their air guitar skills on live TV

Sunrise viewers were left squirming in their seats on Thursday morning after hosts Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington rocked out with invisible guitars live on-air.

Natalie, 55, and Matt, 44, were joined on the show by air guitarist duo Alex ‘Jinja Assasin’ Roberts and Will ‘Billy Damage’ Denton, ahead of their appearance at Finland’s Air Guitar World Championships next week.

‘Air guitar’ is a style of dance in which the performer pretends to play rock music on an invisible electric guitar.

It usually involves exaggerated strumming and picking motions.

Alex and Will attempted to teach the TV hosts how to perform an air guitar solo during the segment – leading to painfully awkward results.

Natalie and Matt, both dressed in corporate attire, were seen jumping and thrusting around the Sunrise set as Sweet Child O’ Mine by Guns N’ Roses blared in the background.

While Matt seemed right in his element, Natalie quickly ran out of breath.

Luckily for her, it was time to go to an ad break.

‘The producers are yelling at us because we’ve gone over time… this is exhausting, air guitaring,’ Natalie gasped.

Matt took a moment to wish Alex and Will good luck in their upcoming competition, saying: ‘Represent us like The Matildas at the Air Guitar World Championships!’

The Air Guitar World Championships will take place in August 23-25, 2023 in Oulu, Finland.

While Matt learns the ropes, Natalie has taken the lion’s share of hard-hitting interviews and has solidified her status as Australia’s queen of breakfast TV.

A Seven insider recently told Daily Mail Australia the secret behind Natalie’s success is not only her excellent journalism skills, but her kind and loyal demeanour.

‘Nat’s earned the respect of the audience because she’s proved time after time she sits in that chair to ask the questions they wanted answered – no matter how tough it might be to ask them,’ they said.

‘There are lots of prickly people in Australian media, but Nat’s proved you can make it to the top by being kind and loyal. She cares about everyone she works with.

‘Nat’s secret? She doesn’t fake it. There are no games. She loves her family, her job and good journalism.’
