The Crown Claire Foy reveals she’s mistaken for Queen Elizabeth II after her role in the drama

Claire Foy rose to international stardom in 2016, for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in Netflix drama, The Crown.

And it appears the 34-year-old’s portrayal of a young Queen Elizabeth is so convincing that she’s now regularly mistaken for the 92-year-old monarch.

Speaking to Stellar magazine on Sunday, the English actress revealed: ‘People think I’m the Queen of England and there’s not a lot I can do about that.’

‘I’m not, is the only thing I can assure people’.

The star was praised by critics and viewers alike for her arresting performance in the historical drama, and even received a BAFTA nomination for the role.

She haswon an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama for her role in The Crown and also picked up a Golden Globe (earlier this year) for playing the monarch.

Now the actress is playing a very different leading lady – Lisbeth Salander in the latest installment of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series.

The casting of Claire in The Girl In The Spider’s Web was controversial at first, with some fans claiming The Crown star was ‘too prim’ to play a dark and brooding character like Salander.

However, Claire laughed off the critique and told the publication: ‘I don’t think I’ve ever been described as prim in my entire life.’

Claire will not return to season three of The Crown, as it was announced in late 2017 that she will be replaced by Olivia Colman, who will portray a much older Elizabeth for the next two seasons.

The actress gave advice to her successor, sharing: ‘(It’s) important to take time to sleep.’

‘Make sure you take care of yourself and don’t get too tired,’ she added.

‘When you are doing a long-run show like that and it’s nine months per season, it’s hard work, long hours, long weeks, long months.’
