A major cruise line has urged passengers to report their fellow guests ‘immediately’ if they break one rule onboard.

The warning comes after a passenger asked Carnival Cruise Line’s ambassador, John Heald, what they should do if their balcony neighbour starts smoking.

They asked: ‘Would you report your neighbour for smoking on balcony? This has happened to us on a few cruises.

‘I did not report them but it was a big inconvenience not being able to sit out and enjoy the ocean air.’

In his response, John urged the passenger to report balcony smokers immediately.

He said: ‘For the safety of the ship, I would report it immediately. We encourage you to please report it immediately.’

Heald also emphasized that reports would be kept anonymous so the smoking guests wouldn’t know it was their neighbours.

While smoking outside on a balcony might not seem that dangerous, it’s an extremely risky act on a cruise ship.

Carnival Cruise Line doesn’t allow guests to smoke on their balcony on any of its  ships.

Passengers are, however, allowed to smoke in designated smoking areas on the line’s ships. Guests are also usually allowed to smoke in the casino as long as they are ‘seated and playing’.

A cruise expert recently warned MailOnline Travel that guests could risk upsetting the crew if they ignore the ship’s rules.

And while it might not be against the rules, a common buffet etiquette error recently ignited fiery debate among experienced cruise passengers.
