The decade’s top 10 most ‘important and influential gadgets’ – with Apple’s iPad ranking first

TIME magazine has revealed its list of ten technologies that it deems ‘the decade’s most important and influential gadgets.’

Apple’s iPad, launched in 2010, took the number one spot, followed by Tesla Model S and Raspberry Pi – both released in 2012.

Two of the Cupertino company’s other devices also took the seventh and eight spots – the iWatch, followed by the AirPods.

The New York-based publication chose the iPad as number one because, the only tablet computer on the market was a laptop and the device created a cultural shift for personal computing.

Apple’s iPad took the top spot on the list and interestingly enough, the device is set for its 10th anniversary next month

‘Over the last 10 years, thousands of products have been released, and while some are definitely ‘cooler’ than others, their impact on the past decade, and the decade to come, is by no means identical,’ Patrick Lucas Austin with TIME magazine shared.

Apple’s iPad took the top spot on the list and interestingly enough, the device is set for its 10th anniversary next month.

Austin shared: Before the iPad’s introduction in 2010, the idea of a ‘tablet computer’ was mostly relegated to slick science fiction movies and unwieldy laptop-adjacent monstrosities running terrible software.’

‘Apple’s iPad — like the iPhone before it — resulted in a cultural shift for personal computing, and set the tone for the next decade of portable devices.’

Next on the list is the Tesla Model S, which has 'reshaped the trajectory of the automotive industry'. Competitors in the automobile industry have been forced to adopt battery-powered technology in order to stay afloat
