The disturbing reason Kayla Itsines stopped getting coffee at her local café

Australian fitness queen Kayla Itsines has revealed the ‘gross’ reason why she stopped buying takeaway coffees.

The 33-year-old was shocked to discover her go-to café used tap water from a dirty sink to make her iced long black.

From that moment the mum-of-two – who moved from Adelaide to the Gold Coast with her family earlier this year – hasn’t ordered a coffee since.

‘I used to go to the same coffee shop every morning until I realised the same tiny water basin they were washing their hands in when they came back from the toilet was the same water basin they used to put water in my iced long black,’ she on her Instagram story.

Switching from tap to filtered water can provide a variety of health benefits, and it’s also important to drink 2L a day.

In Australia, tap water is safe to drink but if you are travelling to rural areas it’s best to double check the safety standard.

In other parts of the world – such as Africa or Mexico – tap water is not safe to drink and bottled water should only be consumed.

But some Aussies choose to only drink tap water because of the taste and health benefits filtered water provides.

Previously Sydney general practitioner Dr Dasha Fielder told FEMAIL most adults should aim to drink between 2.5 to three litres in order to maintain optimum hydration.

Dr Fielder said drinking water will help hydrate the kidneys, improve digestion and gut health, rejuvenate the skin and avoid feeling fatigued.

‘We lose a lot of water by drinking caffeinated drinks, such as teas and coffees, and overnight while sleeping – so we need to replenish this throughout the day,’ she said.

Dr Fielder said drinking at least two litres of water will hydrate the body and help maintain kidney health, as well as improve or maintain healthy skin, increase brain power and improve digestion.
