The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visit Blackpool

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived in Blackpool on Wednesday to visit a series of innovative projects focused on investment and regeneration, as well as learning how the resort is tackling some of the social and mental health problems faced by people in Britain today.

Kate, 37, looked elegant as she kicked off her visit to the iconic seaside town alongside William, 36, with a visit to the iconic Blackpool Tower.

The royal couple took part in a briefing about the town’s recent history, the challenges, and the investment and regeneration efforts that are currently underway.

Kate and William were then pictured greeting members of the public on the promenade’s ‘Comedy Carpet’ installation as they departed the Blackpool Tower.

The Duchess cut an elegant figure in the rain, opting for an olive £940 Sportsmax coat and a recycled green Manu Atelier bag, along with black  knee-high boots.

Kate appeared to be wearing a Michael Kors patterned peacock dress with sheer sleeves underneath the coordinated ensemble, making for a stylish appearance.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge continued their day with a visit to Blackpool Central Library, where they will join two separate discussions focusing on issues and initiatives of particular relevance to each of their ongoing charitable interests.

The Duchess will then join members involved in Blackpool’s ‘A Better Start’ charity programme, including health visitors, practitioners from the Family Nurse Partnership, and parents.

The session, led by Merle Davies, the Director of Blackpool’s Centre for Early Child Development, will discuss the impact of long-term investment in mothers, fathers and children in their early years.

Meanwhile the Duke will meet people affected by problems around mental health, including issues such as homelessness and addiction, and meet people making a difference through the innovative work locally.

He will also meet representatives of the emergency services and first responder community to learn more about how they are helping people with complex mental health needs.

For the final stop of the day, Kate and William will visit Revoe Park, a recently revamped community garden and park that has been transformed thanks to involvement from A Better Start.

The park had previously been a known location for drug use, in an area of significant deprivation, yet is now a great example of how a long-term community led initiative can transform lives and provide new opportunities.

In particular the park is helping young children experience gardening and the outdoors, as well as providing space and activities that allow parents, particularly men, to talk about mental health.

The royals will meet with volunteers who maintain the space and run activities in the park, including a carpentry workshop.

Kate’s outfit choice came as royal commentators have speculated that Kate, who typically wears named designers like Alexander McQueen and Jenny Packham, might start to wear more low-key custom commissions as her seniority within the Royal Family increases.

Meanwhile Kate and William’s joint engagement came as Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, made a surprise appearance on stage at children’s charity WE Day’s star-studded event in London’s Wembley today.

The Duke of Sussex made a speech on stage, cheered on by his pregnant wife, who looked business chic in black skinny jeans and a navy blazer.

The Princes and their wives have had a busy week of engagements, and were pictured together for the first time since Christmas as they celebrated Prince Charles’ fifty years of service at a Buckingham Palace reception thrown by the Queen yesterday.
