It was a party in Buckingham Palace’s Throne Room that went on into the night – and for good reason.
On April 29, 2011, Prince William and the former Kate Middleton married in a majestic ceremony inside Westminster Abbey, and then let their hair down away from the public gaze.
Royal writer Robert Jobson has revealed in his new biography of the Princess of Wales that the couple danced to ‘You’re The One That I Want’ from iconic film Grease as friends looked on.
The couple danced and mouthed the words first uttered by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John on screen as they looked into each other’s eyes.
William and Kate also enjoyed a live performance by pop star Ellie Goulding, who sang her rendition of Elton John’s ‘Your Song’
Kate had changed into a strapless satin gown with an embroidered diamante waist and a white angora bolero cardigan for the evening celebrations.
The dress did not have a train like her lace wedding dress did – the perfect attire for Kate and William to dance the night away.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
Speaking in trailer of their Netflix documentary, Harry and Meghan seemed a little hazy about the name of the classic they chose for the first dance.
Meghan said: ‘I just really wanted the music to be fun.’
Then she asked Harry: ‘Even our first dance. Song of a thousand dances? I always get it wrong,’ before singing a few of the lyrics such as ‘Mashed potato, do the alligator’.
She was right of course: Wilson Pickett’s version of the 1962 hit, Land of a Thousand Dances.

Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall
When Zara Phillips, daughter of Princess Anne, walked down the aisle with England rugby star Mike Tindall, on June 30, 2011, they did so in the simple surroundings of Canongate Kirk on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile.
And when it came to her first wedding dance with Mike, Zara chose a classic: Frank Sinatra’s version of I’ve Got You Under My Skin.

Lady Gabriella Windsor and Tom Kingston
When Lady Gabriella Windsor married Thomas Kingston in 2019, the daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent chose her favourite song, Will You Love Me Tomorrow by The Shirelles.
To make matters more special, it was her sister-in-law, Sophie Winkleman, who performed it at the reception.
Speaking to the Daily Mail at the London Art Biennale, she said: ‘There were a few tears but I’m not sure if it was because they were moved or wanted me to stop!’

Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden
Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden were married at the Swedish Royal Chapel on June 13, 2015.
The pair kicked off their lavish reception with ‘Sofias Brudvals,’ a waltz written by Pelle Arhio and sung by Swedish artist Per Bredhammar.
Later on in the evening, the couple made a drastic change with performances by Icona Pop and the late Avicii.
It was reported that dance music star Avicii performed even adapted the lyrics of one of his hit songs to: ‘I met Carl Philip in Ibiza, where we got to hang out and talk for some time’.

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brookbank
Princess Eugenie revealed her that, when she took the floor with Jack Brookbank, they moved to the sound of You’ve Got the Love, the 2008 hit by Florence and the Machine.
And there was a sentimental reason for the choice, as she admitted when appearing on ‘Kate Thornton’s White Wine Question Time’ podcast.
‘That was our first dance, You’ve Got The Love, and it’s because when we first started dating – so Jack and I have been together for 13 years – we used to sing ‘Euge got the love’ not ‘you’ve got the love,” she laughed.
‘Nobody knows that,’ she then remarked. ‘That’s a real big nugget!’
