The five slowest players on FIFA 18 Ultimate Team

When it comes to FIFA 18, the one stats everybody looks to first is the player’s pace. Especially in Ultimate Team as the quick and arcade-style gameplay makes it fairly crucial to your success.

But what about the slowest players on FIFA 18? Are they completely useless? Not necessarily.

We’ve compiled a list of the five slowest players on FIFA 18 and three of them are actually fully-capped internationals.

As in every FIFA game, pace is one of if not the most important player stats on Ultimate Team

Oswaldo Vizcarrondo

Venezuela international Oswaldo Viccarrondo has only 27 pace but is joint fastest on this list

Oswaldo Vizcarrondo is an experienced defender who is actually the joint-fastest on this list. While his 27 pace isn’t anything to write home about, he is a fairly accomplished player.

He currently plays for ESTAC Troyes in Ligue 1 who currently sit 14th in the table and also has 80 caps for Venezuela. With 83 strength and 85 aggression, he can still be a fearsome player in your back-line.

His pace in FIFA has fluctuated throughout the years. His first ever Ultimate Team card was his quickest with 34 pace – the same as what John Terry currently has. Yet, in FIFA 16 he was actually a lot slower with just 23 pace – fair play to him for getting quicker despite now being in his 30s.

Per Mertesacker

Per Mertesacker has always been known as very slow, still his 27 pace isn't the slowest in-game

Arsenal and Germany defender Per Mertesacker is also the joint fastest player on this list – that’s not something you’ll read very often.

If it comes to a foot race, his 27 pace will always been an issue. However, there’s more to football than that and Mertesacker has had a phenomenal career thanks to his intelligent reading of the game and his imposing, physical presence.

All of his defending stats are in the 80s and his 81 overall also makes him the highest rated player on this list – in fact he’s the only gold player.

Aaron Hughes

At 37-years-old it's no surprise Northern Ireland captain Aaron Hughes only has 23 pace

Aaron Hughes is the last international on our list and has actually captained his country, Northern Ireland. He made his international debut at 18 and has now racked up 109 caps after returning from international retirement in 2011.

He began his career at Newcastle United and player for Brighton & Hove Albion a couple of years ago. His current team, Hearts, thrashed Scottish Champions Celtic 4-0, ending their 69-game winning streak.

Sadly for Hughes, he had to watch the match from the bench but with this 23 pace, that was probably a smart decision considering the pace of Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair.

Hughes wasn’t always this slow, in fact in FIFA 10 he actually had 71 pace and earlier in his career he would occasionally play as a fullback. At 37-years-old, it’s not surprising that this is no longer the case.

Tommy Kassemodel

Tommy Kassemodel is the most unique player on this list as he’s not actually a professional footballer. He is actually the kit man for Bundesliga 2 team Erzgebirge Aue.

He was included as part of the squad due to a loophole around German football rules. Every German team has to have at least four players who were developed through their own academy.

He is unsurprisingly the joint lowest rated player on the game with an overall of 46. However, his 42 shooting is actually higher than that of Icon card Alessandro Nesta and has better defending than Cristiano Ronaldo.

And while his pace of 23 is extremely slow, it isn’t actually the slowest….

Jamie McCombe

Lincoln City defender Jamie McCombe is the slowest player in FIFA 18 with just 21 pace

Lincoln City defender Jamie McCombe is the slowest player in FIFA 18. With just 21 pace, he won’t be catching any of your opponent’s strikers.

The defender also has the worst dribbling stats in the game with 25. However, that’s not as import for defenders. Standing at 6′ 5″ you won’t see him on the ball for very long.

He’s never had more than 54 pace in the game and probably never will. And yet, he isn’t the slowest player in FIFA ever. That record goes to Ian Baraclough who on FIFA 11 had only 11 pace.
