The footballers’ daughters leading glamorous lives as Gemma Owen heads to Love Island

Football stars are typically surrounded by glamour in the form of wives and girlfriends who are no stranger to grabbing headlines, but now it’s the time for other family members to take their share of the limelight.

Former Liverpool star Michael Owen’s daughter Gemma is set for stardom after being unveiled as one of the Love Island 2022 contestants, but she’s not the only one who can give the WAGs a run for their money.

With models and influencers, a sports agent, a singer, and an entrepreneur in the mix, these ladies are ready to step out of the shadow of their famous sports star parents.

Some have already established a name for themselves independently such as TV personality Biance Gascoine, daughter of Gazza, and Kenny Dalglish’s daughter Kelly Cates who is a Sky Sports presenter.

Here Femail reveals the very glamorous women who are on course to outshine the WAGs you’ve already seen hit the headlines.

She began her swimwear brand in 2020 during the height of the global pandemic.

The beauty ventured into fashion after reflecting on her dressage career, fearing the sport may not support her financially in the long-term.

And last month she hit back at claims her famous father bankrolled her business, insisting ‘I’m doing this off my own back.

Speaking to MailOnline in her first ever interview, Gemma said: ‘I get negative comments and nasty messages a lot.

‘In my dressage, if I’m doing well, I get comments like “you’re only doing well because daddy bought you an expensive horse” and then with me trying to set up my own business I get “you’re using daddy’s money.”

‘It’s constant but I want to make it clear to people that with the business side of things it hasn’t been an open wallet.

‘I got given some money for my birthday and that was my budget. I quickly ran out of that and there are so many more things that I want to do with the brand but I am going to have to wait now until the money comes back in.

‘I am extremely lucky but I would say my dad has actually been… not tight, but he’s been quite tough. He said this is your budget and I’m not funding this.’

'He's not funding this': Some trolls claimed Gemma is just 'another rich footballer's kid living off their daddy's money' – an accusation she vehemently denies (Gemma pictured with dad Michael)

She is now the same age the ex-Three Lions star was when he scored his famous solo goal against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup, which launched him onto the global scene.

Gemma says Michael – who starred on the recent series of The Masked Singer as Doughnuts – has always encouraged her with dressage, given his love of horses, but she says her mum Louise has been more involved with her new business.

She explained: ‘My dad has pushed more with sport but my mum on the other side has always drilled it into me and my sisters how important it is to have something of your own and stand on your own two feet financially.

‘They are both unbelievably supportive but I would say my mum has encouraged more of the business side.’

Fans are set to see more of Gemma as she will spend the summer lounging around in the Love Island Mallorca villa boosting her business and her own profile.

The soon to be reality star will be making her first appearance next week on ITV2 alongside 11 others who hope to find love on the dating show.

Previously Gemma denied she was ever taking part in the series and that her famous dad ‘wouldn’t be very happy at all if I came back and said “I’m going on Love Island.”‘
