The Gentlemen FIRST LOOK: Teaser trailer reveals veteran actor Ray Winstone as a star of Guy Ritchie’s new Netflix drama with glittering cast led by an effortlessly suave Theo James

A new teaser trailer for Guy Ritchie’s Netflix adaptation of The Gentlemen has revealed veteran actor Ray Winstone to be a star of the series.

The highly-anticipated TV drama will be set in the same world as the 2019 film version, but will feature an entirely new cast of characters.

Ray, 66, will play Bobby Glass, a career criminal from the East End of London who founded an industrial cannabis empire.

He joins a host of on-screen talent led by Theo James, 39, as the fictional lead character Eddie, who inherits ‘his father’s sizeable estate only to discover’ it’s a ‘weed empire owned by the legendary Mickey Pearson’.

Ray and Theo star alongside the likes of Chanel Cresswell, Joely Richardson, Daniel Ings, Gaia Weiss and Skins star Kaya Scodelario.

Kaya plays Susie Glass, Ray’s character Bobby’s effortlessly stylish and steely daughter who runs the day-to-day business of her father’s empire.

In the series, a host of unsavoury characters from Britain’s criminal underworld want a piece of Eddie’s operation.

Determined to extricate his family from their clutches, Eddie tries to play the gangsters at their own game. However, as he gets sucked into the world of criminality, he begins to find a taste for it.

The trailer shows the cast enjoying a lavish lifestyle, with Theo’s character Eddie clay pigeon shooting in a stately home and enjoying other riches.

However, the pace picks up to show the criminal characters fighting to protect themselves in brutal and bloody battles, with Ray appearing right at the end of the clip.

Of the new production, creator Guy Ritchie said: ‘The world of The Gentlemen is a little bit of me, I’m thrilled that with Netflix, Miramax and Moonage we have this opportunity to inhabit it once again.

‘We’re looking forward to bringing fans back into that world, introducing new characters and their stories and I am excited to be doing it with this extremely talented cast.’

As well as creating the TV series adaptation, Guy will also direct the first two episodes.

The 2019 movie starred Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Michelle Dockery, Colin Farrell, Jeremy Strong, Henry Golding, and Hugh Grant among many others.

It proved to be a box office success, grossing just over $115 million against a reported budget of $22 million.

In the film version, Mickey Pearson (played by Matthew) was a drug lord that tried to sell off his profitable marijuana business to a dynasty of billionaires.

The Gentlemen will be released on Netflix in March.
