The light has once again been shone on the sartorial hits and misses of AFL players’ significant others thanks to the 2017 Brownlow Medal red carpet.
The event at Crown Palladium in Melbourne on Monday dazzled (and baffled) audiences as WAGs strutted their stuff in an array of daring, dashing and downright eye-popping numbers on the red carpet ahead.
One of the standout winners on the night was Jessie Murphy nee Habermann, wife of Marc Murphy of Carlton, who ensured all eyes were on her in her jaw-dropping glittery number by Ogliar Loro Couture.
Not all attendees had eyes on them for the right reasons, however, with Rachael Finch, Danielle Orlando and Rudy Keddie all missing the sartorial mark with their gowns on the night.
Glowing: Jessie Murphy nee Habermann looked simply glowing as she dressed her burgeoning baby bump in a glittering silver number by Oglia Loro Couture – her hair scraped up into an effortlessly chic up-do
The carpet kicked off with a bang with Jessie Murphy absolutely glowing in her silver gown as she showed off her burgeoning baby bump – the glamorous mother-to-be all smiles as she posed for the cameras.
As always, glittering dresses were all the rage this year as women vied to be the centre of attention as they sashayed their way down the carpet – both Brit Davis and Alex Davis choosing mesmerising and glitter-stamped gowns for the occasion.
Brit’s kilowatt smile matched her beautiful. glittering gown which she matched perfectly with a silver strappy heel and a bouffant hairstyle.
Natalie Cini and Sam Lane turned heads in very similar pink gowns
The colour of the moment, millennial pink, was also a recurring theme on the carpet with a variety of WAGs looking dashing in a variety of pink, blush and pastel hues on the night.
Interior designer, Kate Lawrence, made a statement in a pink lace number from Alex Perry which complemented her tanned complexion.
She kept the dress modest with the high neckline and flowing skirt but added a twist to her look with sheer lace sleeves.
The colour showed itself on the night in a variety of shades varying from soft peaches, cloudy pinks and more brilliant and bright hues.
Racy in lace: Heidi Higgins and Jerri Jones were on trend with their form fitting lace gowns which they both matched with their tumbling locks
Ladies in red: Anthea Sidirpolous and Kimberley Lonergan chose to opt for the daring red hue which turned heads as they sauntered down the carpet
Both Heidi Higgins and Jerri Jones showed that they know what’s on trend as they stepped out in form fitting gowns with cut out detailing.
They both matched their gowns with soft cascading locks and simple make up which let their dresses do all the talking.
Rachael Finch diverted from her usual style on the night, leaving viewers at home scratching their heads as her choice divided social media.
Not quite there: Rachael Finch diverted from her usual style on the night, leaving viewers at home scratching their heads as her choice divided social media
Jordan Ablett opted for a couture gown by popular designer J’Aton Couture – but the neutral shade clashed with her skin tone and the unusual cut made it awkward for the stylish brunette to pose for photos
While many criticised the look and claimed she missed the mark with her peach peasant dress, others adored her creativity and praised the bold move on social media.
Her Pallas Couture gown was created from scratch and reminded people of the regency era that Jane Austen is known for – though the dress didn’t do anything to show off her incredible frame.
Oglia Loro Couture has proven to again be a popular choice amongst the women, with many choosing to wear their custom designs.
Violet hues: Ana Cale opted for a white gown that faded into a different shades of violet, the multi-tiered skirt adding weight to her enviable frame
Ana Cale opted for a white gown that faded into different shades of violet, the multi-tiered skirt overwhelming her slight, enviable frame.
Although the white bustier showed off Ana’s assets, the bouffant princess skirt was a little too much.
Lauren Tscharke, the partner of Carlton player Bryce Gibbs, opted for a daring black gown from that featured a daring neckline and playful tulle princess skirt.
The dress also featured a thigh high split as she bared all, ignoring the less is more approach.
Pops of colour: Linda Weatherlake and Ellie Thornycroft chose gowns that caught peoples attention for the wrong reasons as their overly bright gowns did little to flatter their figures
Interesting choices: The partner of Joe Daniher, Adelle, and Kahlia Ashton both ditched black and white in favour of bolder green and turquoise numbers – each of them taking a risk with their daring, unique numbers
Danielle Orlando also opted for a daring black gown with a dress that left little to the imagination with its sheer material and exaggerated her gorgeous curves.
The strategically placed beading sparkled and shone as she hit the carpet, but the intensity of the dress did quite match the demure setting and Danielle was left crossing her legs as she posed to protect her modesty.
Rudy Keddie opted for an old school cut – her dress’ power shoulders reminiscent of 80s shoulder pads.
But the enormous shoulders were too much for her slight frame and drew eyes away from her incredible figure.
OTT: Madeline Ryan, partner of Stefan Martin of the Lions, pulled some exaggerated, amusing moves as she posed for photos
Dark and daring: Madeline Ryan all went for an all black dress with criss-cross off the shoulder detailing and a large split down the side – she raised eyebrows with her over the top posing on the carpet
Rudy Keddie left some people scratching her heads with her white gown, with its power shoulders reminiscent of 80s shoulder pads and Eleanor Brawshaw kept it simple with a dress that reminded viewers of a year 12 formal
Although black and white were some of the most popular palettes options on the night, some WAGs chose to stand out and rock bright pops of colour.
Proving again that the 80s have made a comeback pops of neon also made appearance, but Linda Weatherlake and Ellie Thornycroft chose gowns that captured attention for the wrong reasons.
Although most WAGs choose the Brownlow Medal to try and stand out from the crowd there are also those who choose to play it safe.
When in doubt, black is always a safe bet, with Danielle Hardwick, Laura McLachlan and Ruby Sweeney choosing to show a minimal amount of skin and opt for old school elegance in their charcoal gowns.
