The Greatest Showman performance by BYU a capella group

The Greatest Showman has been wowing music lovers and film fans alike since its debut on the big screen, but it seems the hit movie musical may have some serious competition – from a college a capella group.

Vocal Point, a group of singers at Brigham Young University, teamed up with the college’s award-winning dance team in order to create a spectacular tribute to the movie, performing a medley of hits from the soundtrack while recreating some of the film’s most awe-inspiring scenes.

Along with dancers from the BYU Cougarettes, Vocal Point’s singers performed a mashup of tracks, including The Greatest Show, Come Alive, Rewrite the Stars and This is Me, and all against an impressive circus-themed backdrop.

The a capella group also recruited Aeries Aerial Arts, which teaches aerial skills in Sandy, Utah, for the acrobatic stunts and filming location, which was set-up to look like a circus arena.

In addition to amazing vocals, stunt work and dancing, they provide a breathtaking set – props included – that strikes a uncanny resemblance to the Hollywood film that premiered in December.

Vocal Point shared photos and short clips of the music video to their Instagram account with one caption reading: ‘Ladies and gents, this is the moment you’ve waited for. VP + Greatest Showman.’

The nearly five-minute music video opens with the showman and the dancers, donning sparkling silver hats and dark blazers, performing their first number: The Greatest Show.

And behind them, the aerial performers can be seen spinning on their hoops and hanging from the aerial silks.

The next song, Come Alive, then starts but this time, instead of a large number of people, it begins with one performer who can be seen wearing a blue blazer and using a cane as a prop.

Other dancers and singers join him by the time the chorus starts and eventually begin clapping along to the song which ends with the male lead holding his cane in the air and dancers surrounding him.

The next song, Rewrite the Stars, which in the film, is performed by Zendaya and Zac Efron, then starts with the two performers doing an acrobatic number.

They can be seen grabbing a hold of the aerial ropes and moments later, swinging arm and arm in unison with other dancers, wearing long dresses, surrounding them.

At one point, in a slow motion sequence, the male performer grabs his partner’s leg so that she can do a split while swinging in the air.

The song then finishes with the duo planted on the ground singing to each other with the dancers still performing.

The last song the group performs is This is Me, which features a student dressed as the bearded lady character in the film.

The song starts with her standing while the rest of her fellow performs sit on bleachers and then moments later, descending and entering the middle of the arena for her performance.

This is Me then cuts back to the first song the group performed – The Greatest Show.

And during the last song, lead singers from the prior performances can be seen joining for the finale, which ends with an array of dancers and acrobats decked out in colorful costumes and an authentic circus setting.

Since being shared earlier this week, the video has gotten almost 400,00 views and 15,000 likes.
