‘The guys talk a lot of s**t about me and then run away’: Khamzat Chimaev hits out at UFC rivals for ducking him, as undefeated star targets March for return to action

  • Welterweight star Khamzat Chimaev believes ‘nobody wants to fight’ him
  • The 28-year-old is desperate to become the UFC’s next welterweight champion
  • Chimaev has slammed potential opponents for ‘trashtalking’ and ‘running away’
  • Chimaev is expected to return in March with no opponent yet announced

UFC welterweight contender Khamzat Chimaev has slammed fellow fighters for ‘running away’ from facing him and believes a lack of opponents is because ‘nobody wants to fight’.

The 28-year-old was denied the chance to headline his first UFC main event after weighing in seven-pounds over the limit and seeing his meeting in the octagon with Nate Diaz scrapped.

Chimaev was allowed to face American Kevin Holland in a catchweight bout on the same card, making light work of his opponent to claim a 12th professional career win.

The Swedish-born fighter came in for heavy criticism and was labelled as unprofessional by some supporters who have now turned on the upcoming star of the welterweight division.

‘I’m going to fight somebody. I don’t know who, they change opponents all the time, every week I have a new opponent, Chimaev told his YouTube channel.

‘But nobody wants to fight. The guys speak a lot of trash talk, a lot of s*** about me and ‘I want to fight you, I want to fight you,’ but when it comes to the fight and signing a contract they always want to run away.

‘I’m always ready, we’ll see what’s going to happen now.’

Chimaev is determined to become the division’s undefeated champion and has been linked with fighting Colby Covington next, along with a number of other potential suitors.

He will then attempt to organise a title showdown with the winner of Leon Edwards’ rematch with Kamaru Usman.

However, Chimaev has admitted he is ‘bored of trashtalking’ and stated his desperation to secure another fight.

‘I think we’ll be, hopefully, in Vegas in March, we’ll see but I don’t know who, I just need an opponent, I am tired of doing this trash talking, it’s boring and this is not my game.

‘I’m the next for a title, who are these guys going to fight? Alex Pereira [the middleweight champion] had a 6-1 record, he lost against a s*** guy who is not in the UFC – I never lost in my life.

‘UFC don’t want it, the guy don’t want it, what am I going to do? If the guys run away from me, just give me somebody, I’m ready.’
