The Inspired Unemployed podcast ‘dropped’ by streaming service – following disastrous prank in Sydney

The Inspired Unemployed podcast will not be renewed for a fourth season by Spotify as hosts Matt Ford and Jack Steele are ‘dropped’ by the streaming service.

Following the finale of their third season at the end of this month, there are reportedly no plans to renew their larrikin social media duo’s contract.

A spokesperson for the pair, among several other sources, confirmed the news on Wednesday, reported The Daily Telegraph.

‘The podcast is currently in its third season and no current beyond that [sic],’ the spokesperson told the publication.

Matt, 28, and Steele, 29, will likely lose a huge chunk of revenue as their first season, which launched in 2021, is believed to have landed them a $700,000 deal.

It quickly shot to the top five most watched podcasts on Spotify in Australia, but has recently dwindled in the listings at around the 64 mark.

The news comes after the podcast duo got wrapped up in massive backlash following an unsavoury prank they pulled at a feminist talk in Sydney.

Fans of Clementine Ford were left angered in April after a prank by comedy group went disastrously wrong.

A large group of mostly women attended the free event which featured a panel including Ford, and fellow feminist writers Antoinette Lattouf and Yumi Stynes.

But the unsuspecting audience, who were set to hear a serious chat on marriage and sex, became upset after comedian Steele turned up as a ‘special guest’.

Steele made a series of off-colour remarks which angered the audience.

At one point, he was heard to say ‘chicks dig consent’ and ‘I really like girl writers’.

Introduced as a special guest offering his ‘perspective’ as a young male on the panel topics, Steele’s remarks reportedly left some of the audience in tears.

According to Yahoo Lifestyle at the time, Steele’s antics were being filmed as part of The Inspired Unemployed’s TV show, (Impractical) Jokers.

The funnyman was reportedly being ‘fed’ his provocative comments via an earpiece as part of the new show.

The report claimed many audience members left the event before it was scheduled to finish.

Meanwhile, Ford and her co-panellists stayed on for an extra hour to continue with the talk after Steele left the event.

The prank sparked backlash from Ford’s fans, who took to her Instagram to express their rage over being duped as part of a comedy show.

Meanwhile, News.com reported Steele apologised to the audience just before leaving the event.

He said: ‘I’m very sorry guys. I look like a f***wit and you all hate me… from the bottom of my heart, I’m sorry.’
