The Kid Laroi reveals why he was ‘scared’ to perform in Melbourne

The Kid Laroi has confessed he was afraid to perform in Melbourne after his last show in the city was cancelled two years ago.

The Aussie rapper, 21, made the admission on stage at his concert at Rod Laver Arena in the Victorian capital on Saturday.

The Stay hitmaker expressed deep remorse and regret over the ‘really embarrassing’ incident two years ago.

‘I want to say, coming back to Melbourne, and doing two nights, I was a little bit scared,’ he began.

‘I didn’t know if people were going to trust me anymore. But obviously that wasn’t true. I have the greatest supporters of all time.’

In June 2022, the pop star abruptly canceled a show 35 minutes after his scheduled appearance.

However, the cancelled Melbourne show came after an unannounced performance at 170 Russell the previous night.

‘That was really embarrassing,’ Laroi said at last night’s concert.

‘I still, sometimes, before I go to sleep at night, I’m like, “Oh f***, remember what happened in Melbourne that last time?” So I want to say thank you for coming back, thank you for trusting me, thank you for loving me.

‘I know a lot of you guys work really hard. Taking time out of your day, and paying for tickets…spending your hard-earned money to come to this concert. That doesn’t go unnoticed, and I really do appreciate it.’

It comes as the music star copped flak for cancelling an $800 meet and greet after his Sydney show.

The superstar delivered an electrifying performance last month that reaffirmed his status as Australia’s biggest music export.

But soon after the show, a TikTok user by the name of George999 took to the social media platform to share his fury about the meet and greet’s cancellation.

Over still pictures of his VIP passes, the fan explained the unfortunate situation.

‘We were supposed to have meet and greet tickets for $800…we got this message after lining up for an hour,’ he said, before sharing a screenshot of a text message that announced the cancellation.

‘The meet and greet is going to be cancelled and as a substitute we’re going to get a signed poster. Like, yeah, that’s a great replacement,’ the ticketholder said sarcastically.

‘This was all the information we got on the night and nothing about refunds or anything.’

The fan also recounted how the organisers initially offered the signed poster would be available from the VIP area, before saying that they would mail it out to fans.

The disappointed fan then said that he was more worried about getting a ‘f***ing refund.’
