The Kid Laroi’s mum Sloan Howard accused of credit card fraud over laser clinic services

The mother of Australian teenage rap sensation The Kid Laroi is accused of fraudulently using a credit card to pay for cosmetic services at a Sydney shopping centre.

Sloane Howard, whose son’s real name is Charlton Kenneth Jeffrey Howard,  has pleaded not guilty to one count of dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage by deception.

Police allege the 51-year-old used the credit card details of a John Keith to pay for cosmetic services worth $849 from Laser Clinics Australia at Marrickville Metro Shopping Centre on August 8, 2018.

When charged she was staying at the Four Seasons Hotel in George Street. Court documents incorrectly refer to her as male.

After returning to Australia from Los Angeles to tour with her son last month Howard handed herself in to a police station in central Sydney where she was arrested and charged.

Howard’s matter was mentioned in Downing Centre Local Court on Monday when high-profile solicitor Chris Watson sought an adjournment so the rest of a police brief could be served.

Mr Watson said Howard was overseas as part of an existing contractual agreement and he could not be sure of her exact whereabouts.

‘That’s not her choice – it’s a contractual commitment,’ Mr Watson told the court.

‘This is a pre-existing world tour by her son.. My client is travelling overseas and her movements at this stage are unknown to me.’

Mr Watson described Howard’s son, who is in Europe after completing the Australian leg of his tour, as ‘a well-known personality’.

The case was adjourned to July 11.

On Mother’s Day in 2020 The Kid Laroi paid tribute to her as ‘the strongest woman I know’.

‘I’ve seen you literally put your own life on the line to make sure I always had the best, even in the worst [times].’

Howard first faced Downing Centre Local Court on May 30 when she pleaded not guilty to the sole charge. She was excused from attending court on Monday.

The Kid Laroi, now 18, has previously discussed the lengths his mother went to in supporting him and his younger brother Austin after her separation in 2007 from her husband, music producer Nick Howard.

Before that, the Howard family lived in relative luxury.

He attended Mosman Church of England Preparatory School and mums whose children attended remember Howard as ‘a lovely, very attractive and stylish woman’ who would drop off Charlton in a sports car.

After his parents split everything changed dramatically.

The Kid Laroi has spoken at length about growing up in housing commission at Waterloo, mixing with troubled youth, and that the family was even evicted for misbehaviour.

After that the family spent time couch-surfing and The Kid Laroi became heavily influenced by his uncle Doug, who was murdered in 2015.

Howard has also previously worked as a talent manager for Indigenous artists and it was her work that led to her son first getting recognition.

Since The Kid Laroi broke through to global superstardom in 2020, Howard and son Austin have lived in Los Angeles with him.

He has gone on to record duets with Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber and is signed to Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun.

He has a record contract with Columbia and is estimated to be worth $4.35million.

The star was in Sydney earlier this month signing a deal with McDonald’s Australia and has blasted people he claims have tried to ‘leech’ off his newfound fame and fortune.

He was forced to apologise to fans after withdrawing from his much-anticipated show in Melbourne at the last minute because he was too sick to perform.

He pulled out of the show at Rod Laver Arena, 40 minutes after the scheduled start time, leaving the massive crowd devastated.

The pop star has also cancelled a second Melbourne show after being diagnosed with the flu and told to rest by doctors.
