The most embarrassing TV and movie FAILS revealed

Fans of HBO’s The Last Of Us were left in stitches earlier this week after spotting a very embarrassing error.

The episode, entitled Kin, followed Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) as they continued on their journey.

But eagle-eyed viewers were quick to notice a glaring issue as the duo trudged across the snow-covered bridge.

Two separate groups of crew members could be seen lurking at the edge of the shot – some at the end of the path before the bridge, and others on another path just south of the bridge.

Viewers were quick to pounce on the error, but it is not the first popular title to suffer an on-screen blunder.

In recent years, Blake Lively had a wardrobe malfunction in Gossip Girl, Up ‘recycled’ characters from previous scenes – and, of course, there was that Game of Thrones coffee cup gaffe.

Here, FEMAIL reveals some of the most embarrassing TV and movie fails to date.

Coffee cup chaos: Game of Thrones was hijacked by a rogue ‘Starbucks’ drink on set

The most memorable blunder in recent years was undoubtedly the modern-day coffee cup appearing in Game of Thrones in 2019.

In the now-infamous scene a ‘Starbucks’ cup was spotted on a long trestle-table in Winterfell’s Great Hall in front of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).

And fans of the Emmy-winning drama wasted no time in pointing it out.

But HBO appeared to take the well-publicized gaffe in their stride and ultimately acknowledged the mistake with a humorous statement.

‘The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake,’ the company said in a statement at the time. ‘Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea.’

Game of Thrones art director Hauke Richter later said he didn’t think it was a big deal.

‘Things can get forgotten on set,’ he told Variety at the time. ‘[The coffee cup has been] so blown out of proportion [because] it has not happened with Thrones so far.’

But executive producer Bernadette Caulfield apologized for the gaffe and admitted she was shocked when she saw the cup.

‘I can’t believe it,’ she told WYNC’s All Of It. ‘Our on-set prop people and decorators are so on it one thousand percent. I just honestly can’t, I’m like, is that really?’

‘Because nowadays you can’t believe what you see because people can put things into a photo that really doesn’t exist. But I guess maybe it was there, I’m not sure. But, yeah. We’re sorry!’

The blunder was worth an estimated $2.3billion worth of free advertising for Starbucks - and it wasn't even the company's beverage

Meanwhile, the blunder was worth an estimated $2.3billion worth of free advertising for Starbucks – and it wasn’t even the company’s beverage.

It was actually a plain cup from the on-site food service referred to as craft services, CNBC reported.

However, fans assuming it was a Starbucks drink lit up social media.

Chief executive officer of marketing company Hollywood Branded Stacy Jones said: ‘This is a once-in-a-lifetime collision of opportunity for Starbucks.

‘But really, this is just the tip of the iceberg, because what isn’t being monitored or estimated is the word of mouth and social media on top of this.’

Wardrobe malfunction: Blake Lively forgets to remove her sweatpants on Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl was beloved by fans for its incredible style, with outfits that viewers worshipped, picked over, and even recreated themselves.

But unusually, in series six, the show’s impeccable reputation would temporarily falter as one of its stars suffered a serious wardrobe malfunction.

In the episode, which first aired in 2012, Serena (Blake Lively), is dressed in a coral-colored Roland Mouret bodycon dress, which she wore – naturally – with bare legs and platform pumps.

But a pair of black drawstring sweatpants were later revealed

There are a handful of full-length shots of her both sitting and standing, first in a scene with her boyfriend Steven Spence and then in a restaurant with Dan Humphrey.

But at the end of the scene, as Serena gets up to go, a three-second shot very clearly shows her wearing a pair of black drawstring sweatpants pulled up over her legs to the hem of her dress.

The on-screen blunder has never formally been addressed by those involved, despite the clip regularly resurfacing on social media.

But it seems likely that actress Blake Lively was wearing the sweats to keep her legs warm between takes and ended up keeping them on for the shot – with those behind the camera not realizing that they would ultimately be visible on screen.

Seeing double? Family favorite Up appears to ‘recycle’ a character as both doctor and priest

Scenes from the Disney film Up went viral after fans spotted the same character appearing in two totally different moments.

The heart-warming film, which was released in 2009, follows older gentleman Carl eventually making an adventure with a boy scout named Russell after he turns the home into an aircraft with a net of balloons, remembering his wife Ellie and their long life together.

In a montage at the start of the movie, the couple’s life together is shown on screen, with scenes showing Carl and Ellie tying-the-knot and learning they are unable to have children.

But Disney fans seemingly found a flaw as they spotted the same character appearing in both scenes, apparently portraying a priest and a doctor.

It’s far from the first time that it’s emerged Disney has ‘recycled’ a scene or character – they have used some of its backgrounds and animation sequences over and over again.

The technique is called rotoscoping and industry insiders say it is a legitimate method of cutting costs in movie-making.

The process was invented in 1915 and involved humans acting out scenes for animators to trace in order to make the cartoons more realistic.

Researchers previously revealed that scenes from much-loved cartoons such as Robin Hood and Winnie The Pooh were copied from the studio’s earlier hits.

Technological troubles: One of the ancient chariots in Gladiator appears to be fully equipped with a gas tank

Russell Crowe led the charge in Gladiator, released in 2000, which proved to be a box office smash and earned five Oscars, including Best Picture.

The story of a once-powerful general forced to become a common gladiator is fraught with battles that are not for the faint-hearted.

But, despite the blockbuster benefitting from a colossal estimated budget of $103million, cracks were still clear to see.

During the 'Battle of Carthage' in the Colosseum, one of the competing chariots hits a wall and flips on to its side - and once the dust settles viewers were shocked to a gas canister strapped to the back

During the ‘Battle of Carthage’ in the Colosseum, one of the competing chariots hits a wall and flips onto its side.

And once the dust settles viewers were shocked to a gas canister strapped to the back.

Even though it appeared for the briefest of glimpses, it was enough to shatter the suspension of disbelief for many.

Unfortunately, and much to the dismay of director Ridley Scott, the re-releases on Blu-ray and UHD have only made the device more noticeable.

Given that the movie is set in 180AD and stainless steel gas tanks were not invented until the 1800s – this is a blunder that can’t be forgiven.

Breakfast blunder: Julia Roberts magically swaps a croissant for a pancake while chowing down in Pretty Woman

Fans were mesmerized by Julia Roberts’s performance as escort Vivian in Pretty Woman – but perhaps for all the wrong reasons.

In the 1990 release, after Vivian’s first night at the luxury hotel, room service bring breakfast up to the room.

She sits at the dining table enrobed in a dressing gown with a croissant in hand.

The film cuts away to Edward (Richard Gere) for a matter of seconds, but when it returns, Vivian is instead clutching a pancake which she has already taken a bite from.

The continuity error has left fans speculating and, although officially unconfirmed, an entry on the film’s IMDB seems to share some insight.

It reads: ‘The pancake Vivian is eating was, for most of the scene, a croissant.

‘Director Garry Marshall said he liked the performance she gave in the latter part of the scene better, so the croissant magically becomes a pancake, which she began to eat as they did more takes.

‘While this may be the case, there is still a continuity issue. In the first scene with the pancake, she takes a second bite. In the next scene with the pancake in her hand, there is only one bite missing.

‘Not only that, but the pancake with one bite missing has a different bite pattern and is clearly a different pancake.’

Family feuds: Ross and Monica Geller’s father Jack gets replaced by an entirely different person in Friends

Friends fans have discovered a whole host of continuity errors over the years, but one of the most bizarre involves Ross and Monica Geller’s father Jack.

Those paying close attention spotted that Jack (played by Elliott Gould) was replaced by an entirely different actor in a scene from the episode The One in Massapequa.

The 18th episode of series eight sees the gang attend Jack and Judy’s 35th wedding anniversary party, with the couple having told all their friends that Ross and a then pregnant Rachel were married.

The pair (played by Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer) then had to keep up the pretense, with Rachel famously coming up with an elaborate lie – featuring blind Belgian nuns – about their big day.

In one scene, the ‘happy couple’ are seen talking to Ross’ parents Jack and Judy, but when the scene cuts to Ross and Rachel, Jack is replaced by someone completely different.

The extra standing in for Jack fails to look anything like him, with the two being different heights, wearing different outfits and the newbie even sporting glasses.

Despite the confusion over the scene, Digital Spy attempted to clear up the fuss by revealing the error was simply down to a change in filming ratio when the popular series was streamed on Netflix.

Friends, which began filming in 1994, was first shot in 4:3 aspect ratio, which was normal at the time.

These days, shows are filmed in the standard 16:9 ratio, meaning that fans are now watching the wide view version of the program.

And, as a result, all the secret stand-ins and extras that weren’t meant to be seen are now visible.

Mind your head! Storm Trooper goes into battle with a steel door in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

The Stormtroopers in the Star Wars franchise were designed to strike terror into the hearts of viewers.

But it seems that even Darth Vader’s fear-mongering army have their off days.

In Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, released in 1977, a platoon of troopers come marching out from behind a steal door with guns menacingly raised.

However, the moment is ruined when a Trooper at the back right of the group bangs his forehead on the door.

His head is briefly flung back but, after the slightest of pauses, he bravely soldiers on.

In 2017, The Hollywood Reporter tracked down the UK-based actor who had the mishap all those years ago.

Laurie Goode, who was 31 during production, revealed what had happened on set that day as well as his reaction when he saw the film for the first time.

He told the publication: ‘On the second day of filming, I developed an upset stomach. By midmorning I had paid three to four visits to the bathroom.

‘Having re-dressed myself and returned to the set, I felt the need to rush back to the gents’ toilets, but I was placed in [the] shot.

‘On about the fourth take, as I shuffled along, I felt my stomach rumbling, and bang, I hit my head!

‘As I wasn’t moving too fast, it was more of a scuffed bash, so it didn’t hurt, but as no one shouted “cut,” I thought the shot wasn’t wide enough for me to be in frame.’

Time warp? The Simpsons family had miraculously already framed a picture of their youngest before she was even born

The Simpsons have been gracing our screens for more than 30 years and the long-running series has regularly stunned fans with its eerie ability to predict the future.

Over the years, the iconic TV show has foreseen major world events – from Donald Trump’s presidency to the discovery of a three-eyed mutant fish to the erection of London skyscraper The Shard.

And it seems that it was at it once again, but this time within its own universe.

But, when it pans out, a picture of Maggie in her signature blue baby romper and hair bow is already hanging on the wall - despite her not being born yet

But, when it pans out, a picture of Maggie in her signature blue baby romper and hair bow is already hanging on the wall – despite her not being born yet

In the sixth series, in an episode titled ‘And Maggie Makes Three,’ one scene features a heavily-pregnant Marge talking to Homer in the family’s living room.

But, when it pans out, a picture of Maggie in her signature blue baby romper and hair bow is already hanging on the wall – despite her not being born yet.

Simpsons producer Matt Selman also noticed the gaff and did not shy away from sharing it with fans in 2018.

His fellow producer Al Jean joked in a tweet: ‘I hope you’re happy because we just fired SEVENTEEN people for that blunder. Fired. Through. Done.’

Wrong turn? The Braveheart battlefield may have been the site of many bloody clashes – but one white van decided to use it as a car park

Braveheart gave rise to one of the most famous film mistakes ever – which is also one of the most illusive.

The nearly three-hour epic was released in 1995 with Mel Gibson at the helm.

It stirred viewers with its story of a medieval Scottish patriot spurred into revolt against England after he loses the love of his life.

Braveheart gave rise to one of the most famous film mistakes ever - which is in turn one of the most illusive

But there was just one thing that didn’t quite add up.

Given that the film is based on the story of William Wallace, who was active in the 13th century, it seems odd then that a modern day white van would be parked on the edge of the battlefield.

Its presence is only fleeting and is often missed due to the charging soldiers on horseback stealing the limelight.

Forgettable Friends: Rachel meets Chandler for the ‘first time’ on at least four occasions

Cult comedy Friends is seemingly a repeat offender when it comes to continuity errors.

Among its most glaring mistakes, at the beginning of the sitcom, which first aired in 1994, Monica Geller (Courteney Cox) introduced the group to runaway bride Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston).

But problems started arising when the show aired its flashback episodes – during which we see that Rachel had actually met Chandler (Matthew Perry) at least four times before.

It ended traumatically as Chandler lost half his toe, which many fans argued she probably would have remembered.

And the final ‘first meet’ was three years before the setting of the pilot during which Chandler attempted to seduce Rachel.

Keen observers were left wondering how the duo were so forgetful but no official explanation has ever been offered.

All change: Aunt Viv was replaced by a completely different actor in Fresh Prince of Bel Air

NBC’s The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air first reached screens in 1990 with Will Smith as its protagonist.

But the casting for the long-running show was seemingly not without its issues.

Janet Hubert-Whitten portrayed Will’s Aunt Viv in the first three seasons but was replaced by Daphne Maxwell Reid – who fans noted had a completely different skin tone.

However, the origins of this continuity error went much deeper.

Janet left in 1993 which set off a war of words with her co-star that would ultimately mark the collapse of her career.

She had publicly held Will responsible for her exit from the show, calling him an ‘egomaniac’ during a 2011 interview where she said a reunion was off the table.

‘There will never be a reunion…as I will never do anything with an a**hole like Will Smith,’ she declared to TMZ, adding that ‘This constant reunion thing will never ever happen in my lifetime unless there is an apology, which he doesn’t know the word.’

And, in an interview with an Atlanta radio station in 1993, Will added fuel to the fire as he revealed: ‘I can say straight up that Janet Hubert wanted the show to be The Aunt Viv of Bel-Air Show because I know she is going to dog me in the press.

‘She has basically gone from a quarter of a million dollars a year to nothing. She’s mad now but she’s been mad all along.

‘She said once, “I’ve been in the business for 10 years and this snotty-nosed punk comes along and gets a show.” No matter what, to her I’m just the Antichrist.’

In 2020, Will and Janet Hubert finally hashed out their 27-year feud as she told him: ‘I lost everything.’
