The NRL is rocked by cocaine bust as police with sniffer dogs make dramatic arrest at match after allegedly finding a bag of drugs

The NRL has been rocked by a drugs scandal which resulted in a Suncorp Stadium arrest involving police sniffer dogs.

Magic Round in Brisbane saw almost 150,000 fans stroll through the gates across three days of footy – but one spectator was allegedly caught with cocaine last Friday.

It has been reported that the person allegedly in possession of the drugs was a guest of a Canterbury Bulldogs sponsor, who forked out $10,000 for an official NRL Magic Round corporate package.

Queensland police confirmed a man, 37, was arrested at the venue, which saw the entire corporate suite on the eastern side of Suncorp Stadium evicted on the spot.

‘A 37-year-old man was arrested at the NRL Magic Round on Friday, May 17, 2024 for alleged drug possession,’ a police spokesperson told News Corp.

Suncorp staff members were reportedly suspicious of alleged illegal activity in the suite, prompting a call to stadium security.

Queensland police sniffer dogs were sent in and allegedly discovered a bag of cocaine.

Daily Mail Australia does not suggest the Canterbury sponsor, or the Bulldogs club, is guilty of any wrongdoing.

Queensland Police told Daily Mail Australia no charges have been laid over the matter at this stage.

Canterbury CEO Aaron Warburton was notified of the alleged incident.

‘The Bulldogs have been made aware of an alleged incident involving a guest of a guest in a private suite at Magic Round,’ he said.

‘We understand that the matter in question was referred to the Queensland police.

‘It is important to note that the incident did not involve an employee or registered official.

‘The Bulldogs will fully co-operate with relevant authorities should they wish to review the matter further and remind all patrons to abide by stadium policies in line with the values of our game.’
