The number one best-selling Kmart buy for 2024 is a gadget nobody expected – and it’s just 50 cents

It’s been a huge year for Kmart, with global TikTok trends seeing ‘must-try’ apparel, homewares and beauty buys flying off the shelves across the country.

And while most would assume the best-seller for 2024 would fall under one of those categories, the winning buy is in fact a toy.

The 50c Bubble Mega Wand has been officially named the number one product of the year by the department store, with millions of the little gadgets selling across Australia.

The 120mL toy was huge on social media this year, with parents dubbing the cheap item a ‘game-changer’ and an ‘epic hack’ for their families.

‘It keeps the kids entertained for hours,’ they’d rave, ‘It’s the most affordable time killer ever, it’s like magic.’

Available in three colours the bubble wands have been a go-to for birthday presents, friends and themed events, proving there really is nothing like some good old-fashioned fun.

‘These ones are the best ones I’ve bought. They have a like bit of a chemical smell but it’s not as bad as the Chemist Warehouse ones. Liquid is thicker as well and goes a long way,’ a mum wrote.

‘My son was given these for a birthday and they were so good I ordered a whole bunch of them,’ another gushed. ‘Definitely a good buy, very affordable.’

Following closely behind the bubble wand this year was also a toy: the $2 Hot Wheels Car

These tiny collectibles proved they’re just as iconic now as ever and are also a big talking point on parenting TikTok accounts.

That’s it for the toys, however, with the third top item a $49 21L microwave. The impossibly cheap appliance has scored thousands of five-star reviews since it launched, with many agreeing it’s the ultimate ‘cost of living crisis solution’.

‘Ticked all the boxes… does everything I need. Great price and good quality,’ a recent review reads.

Rounding out the list is – as expected – the brand’s famous $59 3.75L air fryer.

The bargain has a near-perfect average review of 4.9 stars, with notable features including an LED function panel with eight pre-set functions and a digital display.

Other top buys for 2024 included the old favourite $59 Foldable Beach Trolley and a $7.50 1.7L cordless kettle.

While the former has gone up in price by $10 since its 2017 debut, the handy beach gadget has been a staple in parents’ kits throughout the summer season.

Not only are they great for storing toys, towels and shoes in, but they are also use to wheel weary kids to and from the sand. It’s also the perfect grocery store cart.

Kmart has continued to skyrocket in popularity this year, with the store constantly being praised for high quality items at almost unbelievable prices.

Key moments this year included the Black Friday Sale, which saw Kmart bring in limited edition big-ticket items like a Pilates Reformer machine, and the viral Christmas range.
