The Project’s ratings spike after getting bumped to a later time slot thanks to Matildas’ Olympic bid

Sunday’s TV ratings saw a massive spike in viewers for Channel 10’s struggling panel show The Project.

Known for its dire viewership over the last two years, the current affairs program drew 261,000 fans in the major centres, 85,000 more than last Sunday.

The show ran at 8pm in Sydney and Melbourne, instead of its regular time slot of 6.30pm.

The Project was pushed back back in the schedule because of Channel 10’s coverage of the Matildas’ Olympic qualification match against the Philippines.

The soccer finished as the fifth the most watched programs of the night, with 523,00 fans in the metro areas tuning in to see the home side thrash the visitors in Perth.

Meanwhile, the ABC had a ratings winner with with Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley’s new reality series.

The much loved star scored a strong metro rating of 461,000 viewers for travel/documentary show Joanna Lumley’s Spice Trail Adventure.

Nine finished the night as the overall winner with a huge audience share of 37.9 per cent.

Arch-rival Seven was a distant second with a 22.8 per cent share, while the ABC finished third on the night with 16.4 per cent of the audience.

Channel 10 was a close fourth place landing 16.2 per cent of available viewers.
