The Project’s Sarah Harris wells up as she braves the coldest Melbourne morning of the year: ‘I can’t feel my toes!’

Sarah Harris battled the icy temperatures in Melbourne on Thursday as she stepped out on the coldest day of the year so far.

The Project host, 42, took to Instagram to give an insight into her freezing morning commute as she shared a snap of herself walking through the city.

In the selfie, Sarah’s cheeks were bright red from the icy temperatures while her eyes also appeared to be welling up from the cold.

She bundled up amid the chilly climes in a grey hoodie and a smart grey jacket, while she shielded her face with a black baseball cap.

The TV presenter looked unimpressed with the cold in the snap, while she captioned her post: ‘9.21am. I can’t feel my toes, Melbourne.’

The Project’s official Instagram took to the comments section to reply: ‘I’ll turn the heating on.’

Melbourne marked its coldest morning of the year so far on Thursday, with temperatures reaching below zero in a shocking chill.

In the city centre, temperatures sat at just over 1 degree but felt as cold as -2.7C in the early hours of the morning.

Residents in outer areas including Horsham, Bendigo, the Mornington Peninsula and Geelong were left battling temperatures below zero.

The coldest temperature in the wider region was recorded at Coldstream, where the mercury fell as low as -2C overnight.

If the low climes continue, Melbourne could be set to face the coldest week the city has seen in more than a decade.

If the temperature dips below -2.5C at Melbourne Tullamarine Airport – which has currently recorded lows of -1C – it would be the coldest temperature on record since 1986.

Sky News Australia’s meteorologist Rob Sharpe said of the icy temperatures: ‘This morning was the coldest in two years (for Melbourne).’

‘We’re expecting a similarly cold morning tomorrow but then the night’s not as chilly as the cloud builds in.’

Daily showers are also set to continue in Sydney, which has already soaked up more than a year’s worth of rain in the first half of 2024.
