Queen Elizabeth II this morning left Windsor Castle for church without her husband Prince Philip, one day after her grandson Prince Harry married Meghan Markle.

The monarch attended the royal wedding with the 96-year-old Duke of Edinburgh yesterday, just six weeks after he had a planned hip replacement operation.

Philip’s attendance for the royal nuptials had initially been in doubt following the operation on April 4, and he spent six weeks on a rehabilitation programme.

He had made his first public appearance since the operation last week at the Royal Windsor Horse show, and was later spotted driving himself around in a Land Rover.
