Sir Jim Ratcliffe echoed the words of Sir Alex Ferguson when he declared he wanted Manchester United to knock City ‘off their perch’. 

He described them, too, as Fergie did back in 2009, as the ‘noisy neighbours’.

In the 15 years since, it is City who have moved into the big house.

United, though, are making no noise at all and while they are technically neighbours, they are a world away from City.
