As a former actress Meghan Markle is well used to dressing for the red carpet and being in the spotlight, but it seems that Prince Harry’s future wife has picked up one crucial style tip from the Duchess of Cambridge since moving to the UK to live with her royal beau.
The bride-to-be has been showing off her prowess at diplomatic dressing during her recent public appearances, by wearing a mixture of brands from Canada where she lived for six years and her new home, the UK.
For instance, she stepped out for her first official engagement of 2018 this week in a scarf by Jigsaw, an M&S jumper and Burberry trousers – all British brands – and a coat by Canadian retailer Smythe.
It’s a trick the Duchess of Cambridge often uses, especially on overseas tours – by wearing a local designer while still championing British fashion.
Celebrity stylist Rochelle White told Femail: ‘I think most people will see this as a positive message and, a bit like Kate, makes her relatable.
‘It shows that she hasn’t forgotten who she is as a person, her home country and what she likes. She is keen to show her love for British fashion but also combines it with designers that she has properly worn for a while.’

For her first official engagement with Harry, Meghan wore the Elodie coat by Canadian designer Mackage; a Joseph skirt, Kurt boots – and carried a bag by Scottish brand Strathberry
She added that strong-minded Meghan may well have been inspired by Kate but would always put her own spin on things.
‘I think that Meghan could have been inspired by Kate and style to a certain degree. She could have properly spoken to Kate about it in regards to advice and maybe tips.
‘But Meghan clearly has her own look and style and I think she ultimately puts her own twist on things.’
In the future, Rochelle hopes Meghan will continue her mix of designer and high street brands, just like Kate.
For Christmas day at Sandringham, Meghan covered up in a camel coat from Canadian company Sentaler, paired with a hat by Irish designer Philip Treacy who is based in the UK, as well as Dents gloves
‘The British designers I think that would suit her would be, Aspinal of London, Burberry and even high street brands such as Karen Millen.’
The former Suits star has already proved the impact she can have on the British high street after the £45 black M&S jumper with bell sleeves she wore to visit the studio of Reprezent 107.3 FM in south London this week sold out within hours.
Despite being in stock on Tuesday morning, the wool blend jumper had sold out in every size by 6pm as royal fans scrambled to emulate the bride-to-be.
And the handbag she carried on her first official engagement with Harry in Nottingham in December, made by a small Scottish label Strathberry, also sold out instantly.
