Awkward moment Karl Stefanovic admits his own mother Jenny doesn’t watch Today and prefers a rival breakfast show
Karl Stefanovic has many fans, but on the Today show on Friday morning he joked that his own mother isn’t one of them.
The popular TV presenter said his mother Jenny tunes into one of the network’s rivals, the ABC, presumably for ABC News Breakfast – rather than watching him on Today.
During a segment about scamming and what people should look out for when receiving dodgy texts, Karl asked a tech expert what to do if it appears that his mother is asking him for money, when he made the admission.
The expert said that he would always ring his mother first, but he then joked that he has to “watch her too” as she could also be a scammer.
Karl then laughed and said: ‘I’m telling you, you have to watch your mums!’

The tech expert then said he hoped Karl’s mother wasn’t watching the show, before Karl said he doesn’t have to worry about that.
He added: ‘My mum likes watching the ABC.’
Karl’s co-presenter Sarah Abo then scolded him for saying that, and added: ‘Ahhh Karl, no she would never betray you.’

While his mother watches the ABC, Karl’s true rival is Channel 7’s Sunrise.
With Matt Shirvington taking David ‘Kochie’ Koch’s chair on June 12, more eyeballs have been on the morning show.
Sunrise smashed Today with a lead of 66,000 viewers over the five capital cities during Shirvington’s debut episode.
By June 19 that lead had risen by a further 10,000, bringing in 245,192 viewers to Sunrise.
