In this day and age there seems to be a constant influx of what foods to eat to lose weight but a Sydney nutritionist has proved it’s simpler than we may think.
An expert in the field, Australian dietitian Susie Burrell, has shared the best foods we should eat that help keep us full without all the unnecessary calories.
Speaking to Newscorp she said there are some unexpected superfoods you can find in your supermarket for a fraction of the cost of others.

SOUP
‘Soup, particularly vegetable based soups, are a great option nutritionally as they combine a high nutrient density with a low energy density – this means that we get lots of key nutrients including vitamins and minerals for relatively few calories,’ Susie wrote.
She explained that this is what has been proven to aid weight loss and that studies have revealed those who eat a low calorie soup before a meal will eat less.
GREEN TEA
There’s no surprise that green tea has made it in her list as it is often touted as a weight loss staple.
Susie explained that it helps burn fat, is a source of antioxidants, and helps increase your metabolism.

COTTAGE CHEESE
‘Often forgotten, humble cottage cheese is one of the most nutrient dense foods you can enjoy, with minimal calories especially on a low calorie weight loss eating regimen,’ Susie said.
She explained that one serve of cottage cheese has a high serve of protein, calcium, magnesium and Vitamin B12 without an overload of calories.
If cottage cheese isn’t your cup of tea, you can opt for goats cheese or ricotta.
WHITE FISH
‘If weight loss is your goal, white fish is your superfood,’ she said.
‘Exceptionally high in protein, low in fat and calories, any type of white fish ranging from dory, perch, barramundi, sole, flounder and whiting served with plenty of vegetables equates to an extremely low calorie meal rich in filling protein and key nutrients.’

BERRIES
Previously Susie appeared on Sunrise to explain to viewers that superfoods don’t have to be expensive.
She encouraged Australians to swap expensive items for cheaper alternatives that provided the same nutrients and benefits.
On the program she said frozen berries were high in nutrition but insisted that you needed to check the labels to make sure the packages are Australian.
‘But don’t forget, you can also get your berries when they’re cheap and freeze them yourself,’ she said.
‘You don’t have to worry when they are out of season, you’re getting the nutrition you always would.’

GREEK YOGHURT
She also said on the show that greek yoghurt was a food that should be a regular part of your diet.
‘A lot of yoghurt are packed full of sugars so if you can go for a more natural or a Greek, it’s better nutritionally and very high in protein,’ she explained.
Susie claimed that it was high in protein and often contains probiotics which benefits your gut health.
Other unexpected superfoods that are full of rich nutrients include brown rice, eggs, kiwi fruits, corn, nuts – or any fruits and vegetables that are brightly coloured because they contain vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
