Australians seeking a career change in the new year could receive a bigger paycheck by switching to one of five careers expected to have the strongest wage growth in 2018.

The field that will see the biggest wages and bonuses is ‘machine learning and artificial intelligence’, according to the Robert Walters Salary Survey.

This revelation comes after the Australian recruitment firm made its predictions that the jobs most likely to see wage growth are in the technology and infrastructure industries.

The number one field likely to see the strongest wage growth and the biggest bonuses in 2018 is ‘machine learning and artificial intelligence’, according to the Robert Walters Salary Survey

‘It’s a hugely growing area, new technologies and engineers and developers in this space are very hard to come by, so that’s why they’re at number one,’ Robert Walters NSW Director Andrew Hanson told 9NEWS.

‘As always, supply and demand are going to drive these things.’

The survey also revealed that one in ten Australians are planning on changing jobs.

The second career on the list, infrastructure project director, also are also paying extremely well – and that includes the skilled trades associated with project direction.

The survey emphasises that rail and road infrastructure roles are currently experiencing double-digit growth due to ‘massive spend[ing] by federal and state governments’.

‘Australian Bureau of Statistics have come out and said that’s the biggest area for wage growth,’ Mr Hanson explained.  ‘Civil engineers, project managers and all the skilled trades off the back of it will do well.’
