The Wiggles’ founding member Anthony Field reveals battle with depression – and says it’s important for men to discuss their mental health

Anthony Field has revealed his mental health struggles – and hopes to encourage other men to speak up.

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, the Blue Wiggle, 58, says that he seeks professional help when he ‘spirals’.

‘My struggles with depression and other mental health issues are only a bad day or bad week away unless I monitor how I’m feeling and reach out and talk to close friends or medical professionals when I feel myself spiralling down,’ he said.

Anthony went on: ‘It’s so important that men talk about their health, as we have a tendency to bottle things up.

‘I’ve had personal experiences of mental health challenges and have seen the impact it can have when people don’t seek help.’

The performer, who began suffering mental health issues in his early 20s, added that ‘crying and letting yourself cry in front of others is liberating and cathartic’ and says he cries routinely as a release.

It comes after The Wiggles’ last remaining original member has reflected on his 30 years spent with the kids’ entertainers.

Anthony admitted that the meteoric success of the group ‘blew us all away’ during an interview with News.com.au.

‘We didn’t think it would get to the heights it did,’ said the former preschool teacher.

While still in their 20s, Field, along with original bandmates Murray Cook, Jeff Fatt, and Greg Page, all went to the United States to try to expand their fan base.

The move paid off, with the band eventually selling out Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The walk down memory lane comes after The Wiggles announced the hiring of four new ‘diverse’ members.
