Judges of the competition went as far as providing detailed verdicts for each of their selections, with many painting detailed pictures of how the wine is best enjoyed.

Judges dubbed the Oakridge LVS Hazeldene Chardonnay ($32) a ‘textbook modern Australian chardy. With beautiful intensity and lemony acidity, this versatile wine is one to take to a Sunday lunch, especially if roast chicken is on the menu.’

When asked about the Marchand & Burch Villages Rosé ($25), the judges called it a ‘very smart wine. It is sunshine in a glass. Perfect for warmer, sunnier days, this opulent rosé takes its cues from the dry style of rosé from Provence.’

But their less-expensive counterparts were arguably as impressive, if not more.

‘This stunning rosé is made for Sunday afternoons. It comes alive with floral flavours and fresh summer berries with an elegant freshness,’ said the judges about the Once & Well Frankie’s Garden Rose Rosé ($14).

‘We love this for its luscious texture and length, its complex pear, peach and fig flavours, with nutmeg and sage notes,’ stated the verdict on the Sidewood Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2020 ($19).
