Fans have lambasted defender Pawel Dawidowicz after he’s theatrical attempt to win a penalty in the Poland’s Euro 2024 warm-up. 

The Poles were in action against Turkey on Monday night as the prepare for their tournament opener next week.

Goals from Karol Swiderski and a last-minute winner by Nicola Zalewski saw them triumph over their fellow Euro qualifiers. 

Yet, the talk across social media following the game was centred around Dawidowicz and his reaction to being tackled as he tried to win a penalty, that’s being described as ‘the worst dive ever’.  

Dawidowicz was challenged by Turkish forward Semih Kilicsoy in the first half, and his reaction to the tackle has lit up social media.

The Polish player has been slammed by fans, after his over the top reaction left many stunned and compared it to a swimming dive and a memorable World Cup goal. 

‘There must be a swimming pool that no one could see.’ One account wrote upon seeing the blatant dive. 

Continuing the swimming theme another compared the dive to something an Olympian would be pleased with by stating, ‘Tom Daley would be proud of that one.’ 

Another fan replaced water with air by posting ‘I believe i can fly’, while there were even calls for punishment for the reaction with a fan writing, ‘This should warrant a suspension’. Albeit with a laughing emoji. 

There were even comparison’s to Robin van Persie’s famous diving header at the 2014 World Cup, with a post that read, ‘He wanted to recreate Van Persie’s move.’ 

He did however get some small backing from one fan, who still believed Dawidowicz had been wronged by posting, ‘Still a foul though’.

The Hellas Verona man, has played 29 times for the club this season and will be part of Poland’s squad that begin their campaign against the Netherlands on Sunday in Group D. 

They then face a game against Austria before clashing with one of the tournament’s favourites France in their final group match. 

Star player Robert Lewandowski has given Poland a slight scare after he left the field against Turkey with an injury. With boss Michal Probierz saying after the game that he hopes there will be no problems with their talisman ahead of the tournament.
