Theresa May suffers another embarrassing interview

Theresa May suffered another embarrassing interview moment today when she was left lost for words when she was asked what she does to ‘let her hair down’.

The Prime Minister was asked what she would like to do to kick back and relax on international women’s day.

But the Tory leader struggled to say what she does to have fun – and said she would be spending her time looking at policies to tackle domestic abuse instead.

The prime minister had a busy day on International Women’s Day, including the hosting of a reception in Downing Street for domestic abuse victims

When asked what she does to let her hair down, Mrs May said that she did not have the time 'to have the girls round and have an evening together'

When asked what she does to let her hair down, Mrs May said that she did not have the time ‘to have the girls round and have an evening together’

In a painful exchange with ITV News due to be aired later today, the presenter Julie Etchingham quizzed the PM about what she does to unwind.

She asked: ‘There must be moments when you long to let your hair down and get away from it all.

‘If you could have your perfect get-together with your girlfriends on International Women’s Day, away from the pressures of your job, what would be the perfect night with them and how would you let your hair down?’

But the PM was left tongue-tied and struggled to come up with an answer to the question.

She said: ‘What a question! And I haven’t thought about it, because my International Women’s Day is heavily focused on what we’re doing on domestic abuse.

‘I’m not going to have the time to have the girls round and have an evening together I’m afraid.’

The journalist then interrupted the PM to press the pointing, asking: ‘I’m just saying on your dream moment, how would you let your hair down?’

But Mrs May, whose robotic style in front of the camera has seen her dubbed the ‘Maybot’, again struggled to come up with an answer.

She said: ‘Well, I don’t think that when you let your hair down there’s only one way of doing it.

‘I think it depends on the group that you’ve got, it depends on the time.

‘But as I say, my International Women’s Day is rather more focused not on what we can do to enjoy ourselves but actually on what we can do to help women out there, women who are suffering, women who are being abused and whose lives are being made a daily living hell.’
