A bungling thief robbed a stash of cash wearing a pair of thongs and a mask that hardly covered his face.

Security footage shows the man wearing a bandanna style mask over his mouth while the top half of his face is on display.

However, the mask didn’t last long as the thief appeared to take it off completely as he stole the cash from the cafe.

‘Why has he gone to the trouble of putting on a mask, and then taking it off?’ Ross Stevenson said on 3AW Tuesday morning.

The man is believed to be aged in his 20s and was wearing light coloured shorts and a long sleeved shirt and back pack at the time of the robbery.

The burglary happened on Ferguson Street, Williamstown, on January 13.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers.
