This Morning’s Josie Gibson and Dermot O’Leary get stuck into a workout leaving them breathless

This Morning’s Josie Gibson and Dermot O’Leary got stuck into a workout on Tuesday’s episode which left the pair breathless and sweaty on the studio floor.

Fans were left laughing at the exercise segment which saw personal trainer and author Shakira Akabusi who was discussing new research which claims working out in the morning is better than the evening.

With Josie, 38, and Dermot, 49, standing in for Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield during half-term, the stars put all their effort into the workout which involved resistance bands and yoga mats laid out on the floor.

‘She’s back with another workout and you don’t even need to leave your front living room, it’s Shakira Shakira!’ Josie exclaimed.

She added: ‘Now according to new research today, the morning is the best time to exercise. Do you agree?’

Shakira says: ‘We all have a time of day that we might prefer to workout.

‘Some people prefer mornings, evenings, I think the morning is great because our body has had a chance to recover, rest and recharge and we naturally have more energy in the mornings to put into a workout.’

She went on to explain that the idea metabolism slows down as people get older has been found to not exactly be true and that it stays consistent until the age of around 60.

Shakira added: ‘We reduce the amount of lean muscle mass that we have.’

Then the trio began their workout by holding onto the resistance bands and taking a step back on their mats to do some lunges.

Josie was still in her black court high heels, which looked lovely with her red and black snakeskin dress – but made it difficult for her to keep balance as she crouched down with each lunge.

Dermot was more appropriately dressed than his co-presenter, with his khaki green long-sleeve polo shirt, black trousers and black leather flat shoes.

Josie kicked off her high heels at one point so she could really get stuck in on the segment.

They also focused on the abs with a plank, and the two were struggling a little more in this section while following Shakira’s strong lead.

As they performed crunches while keeping a plank stance with their forearms on the floor and keeping a straight line on their bodies, Josie and Dermot let out some huffs and puffs while doing their workout.

Fans of This Morning shared how much they enjoyed the exercise motivation with their posts on social media as they watched on.

One person joked on Twitter: ‘I don’t think you’re meant to do that in heels Jose,’ along with a laughing emoji.

However unbeknownst to Ellen, her romantic partner had hired actors and dancers and a singer for a very special proposal, that was broadcast live on the show today.

But while presenters Josie Gibson and Dermot O’Leary were charmed by the moment, viewers at home did not share their enthusiasm, claiming the couple’s special moment was a a bit ‘cringy.’

The segment was a total surprise to Ellen, who believed she had been whisked away by her boyfriend for a getaway for Valentine’s Day.

In the studio, Josie and Dermot were overjoyed for the couple and immediate showered them with congratulations.
