Thousands of holidaymakers are left in chaos as Birmingham airport is evacuated after fire breaks out

Thousands of people were evacuated from Birmingham Airport after a fire alarm rang around the main terminal. 

Passengers charged towards the terminal building’s emergency exits after alarms went off at 2pm today. 

Crowds of people were pictured on the tarmac near the runway, while others were stuck on planes.   

Holidaymakers took to social media to voice their concerns and frustration.

Emm tweeted: ‘Just about to leave and the fire alarm goes off at Birmingham airport evacuating the whole building, great start to the holiday.’

Alison Pritchard wrote: ‘Just what you want at the start of your holiday; being evacuated from Birmingham Airport before you’ve even sipped your first free wine from your first ever ‘lounge’ experience.’

Nicole Hill said: ‘I am flying to Amsterdam today and the fire alarm has gone off in Birmingham airport and we have all been told to evacuate.’
