Thousands take part in Boxing Day dips across the UK

Thousands of hardy souls defied the plunging temperatures to take part in Boxing Day dips.

While the country enjoyed unseasonably warm weather on Christmas Day, the mercury plummeted overnight and brought snow in some parts of the UK.

But that could not stop swimmers flocking to the seaside to take a dip in the chilly waters.

Funseekers were pictured taking the plunge across the UK including in Cromer, Redcar, and Tynemouth.

Many wore fancy dress for the occasion while  dozens of bikini-clad women were spotted frolicking in the waves.

One man was spotted wearing a turkey on his head.

The dips were for good causes and raised money for charities across the country.
