Three people hospitalised in accidents at Safety Beach on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula

Two separate incidents at a popular beach have sent three people to hospital in the same day.

The first incident occurred when a man in his 20s needed saving at Safety Beach, 85km south of Melbourne on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, at 2pm on Saturday.

Ambulance Victoria transported the man to Frankston Hospital in a stable condition.

Less than one hour later one teenager, a man and a child required assistance in the same location after their watercrafts collided at 2.30pm.

Emergency crews airlifted the teen to the Royal Children’s Hospital with upper body injuries and the man was taken Frankston Hospital in a stable condition.

Life Saving Victoria handled the two rescue operations at the beach as a helicopter was seen hovering above.

A life saving dinghy and a jet ski were used to retrieve the people from the ocean and at least two ambulances were seen parked at the boat ramp of the beach.

Victoria Police are investigating the collision and have already impounded the teenager’s jet ski and the man’s boat.

Victoria Police said they are trying to figure out who caused the collision.

‘The three people on the jet ski ended up in the water just off Marine Drive around 2:30pm,’ police said.

‘A man and young child from the jet ski were treated for minor injuries. A teenage boy from the jet ski has been airlifted to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

‘The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated. The jet ski and boat have been seized as part of that investigation.’

In total 46 rescues and 35 medical incidents had been attended to by 4pm Saturday, Life Saving Victoria said.
